Meet The Elford Hotel, An Epic Revamp Of An Iconic Corner Pub In Mount Lawley

By – who is always dreaming of her next meal and reckons a good martini solves most problems

inside the new Elford

We’re calling it, the corner pub is well and truly back. And it’s the slick new incarnation of the old Flying Scotsman in Mount Lawley that has us convinced.

Brought to us by Three Pound Group (The Stables, The Camfield and The Reveley), The Elford Hotel stands proud in its old heritage frame on the corner of Beaufort Street and Grosvenor Road. But don’t let the familiar old facade fool you, you won’t recognise the interior. It’s been completely gutted to make way for a much more spacious and contemporary space. Think warm timber tones, handmade Italian tiles, moody lighting and splashes of green, complete with modern furniture and lighting from Mobilia. It’s also boasting a pretty sweet deck that sprawls out onto the street, so prepare to fight for a seat come summer.

Those who are familiar with the epic eats from Three Pound Group’s well-known venues can expect equally mouth-watering food offerings from Executive Chef Ben Keal here. Our picks? For a drink-friendly nibble, you can’t go past the crispy kimchi and tofu wontons or the polenta chips served with parmesan and creamy aioli. For something more substantial to share, order up a round of katsu sliders and some of their woodfired pizzas—they're damn delicious and perfect for soaking up the booze after a few rounds of drinks. Round it out with the fresh and flavourful broccoli and quinoa salad—it was pretty much the first thing to disappear from our table so trust us, it’s better than your average salad. If you’re not into sharing, you can take your pick from revamped pub fare like their grade 6/7 wagyu burger, chicken schnitzel with Italian slaw or scotch fillet with truffles.

At the bar, you’ve got a ginormous wine list to choose from featuring everything from natural minimal intervention drops (hello, pet nats) to your more classic varieties, and a whole lot of frothies on tap, including a specially crafted brew that pays respect to the old craft beer bar, Caboose. Throw in a tasty cocktail list and it’s safe to say everyone is well and truly catered for.

The Elford Hotel is now open at 639 Beaufort St in Mount Lawley.
