Oh winter, you may be cold, but you do bring a tasty change in seasonal produce. From switching up the menus of our fave foodie spots, to $1 oyster feasts and World Chocolate Day (yes, we’re serious), get your bellies ready for a winter weekend of complete indulgence. And if you’re in the mood for a cultural burst, you’re set; from film to a throwback Britney par-tay, and a night dedicated to some good ol’ gin appreciation.
So buckle up (or maybe unbuckle?), get out of the house, and into Sydney’s ultimate bucket list for this weekend.
Butter x Puma Collaboration
Burgers and fries in Sydney just got red hot. If you’re into shoes (we’re hoping that’s a given), you may want to sit down for this one cause our fave burger-come-sneaker joint is teaming up with PUMA for an exclusive sneaker giveaway. Arsenal’s overdue return down under means we’re PUMPED but also keen for the free pumps… Think limited edition suede sneakers that you can’t get anywhere else. But if your game is more along the menu lines (guilty!), then their newly themed fried chicken menu is for you; with an invincible take on their chicken sandwich, to doughnuts (tell us more), and a slushie of Gooners Gin and Jam. To find out more and to enter head here.
When: Friday 30 June to Sunday 17 July (winners announced Monday 17 July)
Where: Butter, Surry Hills
Wolfe & Co New Winter Menu
Ahh Wolfe & Co; with your local, seasonal produce and damn pretty plating skills. They’re switching up their legendary menu for the cooler months, and our bellies are ready. Expect pecan pie French toast (yes, crème brulee is now a breakfast thing), breakfast burgers, and a cosy bowl of oats finished with frosted almonds, roasted apple, and figs. Lunch has also had a tasty revamp, with caramelised pumpkin and amaretto raviolo, and truffle fries.
ICYMI these guys pride themselves on their ethical supply chain, which is just another reason to head on over to Dural for some foodie heaven this weekend.

Turkish Film Festival
Istanbul is coming to the big screen in all its glory, thanks to some award-winning directors. From the guys who brought us The Water Diviner comes the period drama, The Butterfly’s Dream, and it’s bound to knock your socks off. And because food is always the centre of everything, we’re pretty excited for culinary masterpiece The Turkish Way. Grab your glasses and load up on popcorn and prepare to be entertained AF.
When: Wednesday 5 July to Sunday 16 July
Where: Palace Cinemas
Cost: From $20 (adult)
World Chocolate Day
World Chocolate Day is a thing, and the only thing better than decorating churros in oozy melted chocolate, is eating said churros. There will be tastings. There will be personalised chocolate creations. And cause it wouldn’t be true chocolate indulgence without a 10kg Cadbury chocolate bar up for the winning, there’s a Golden Ticket competition that could land you a $300 Westfield gift voucher (which you will of course spend on more chocolate). So unleash your inner kid, and don’t wear white.
When: Thursday 6 July to Sunday 9 July
Where: Westfield Hurstville
Thursday 6 July
Truck Stop Food Festival
Just in time for winter, Truckstop is touching down on Sydney shores with six ridiculously tasty rolling eateries, including Over the Moo and their delicious vegan sundaes, and everyone’s fave Shiso Fine. If diner-style burgers and milkshakes are more your jam, The Nighthawk Diner will be there to tend to your hunger needs. Plus, to wash these glorious feeds down, Archie Rose Distilling Co will be churning out the alcohol-filled cups o’goodness (including marvellous cocktail concoctions so you can style up your Thursday eve). And what kind of self-respecting Thursday night doesn’t include craft beer and cider? Coors is pouring the good stuff, and you’ll even be able to browse some juicy street art. Also, did someone say DJ?
When: 5pm to 9pm, the first Thursday of every month
$1 Oysters At Hotel Roosevelt
Two things that we (and you, no doubt) go a tad crazy for are cheap things, and hidden things—so when hidden bar, The Roosevelt, hit us up about their $1 oyster special, we got more than a little excited. So here’s the dirt: Every Thursday they’ve got the $1 oysters, and 20% off all things champagne and Laphroaig whisky. We all know that Thursday night feasting (and drinking) is life, so if you manage not to get distracted by their frankly dangerous cocktail menu for long enough to order a thrifty oyster spread; you’ll definitely be thanking us. Sound good? We think so.
When: Every Thursday
Where: The Roosevelt, Potts Point
Cost: Free entry
Friday 7 July
Britney Spears Party
Don’t freak out, but Britney has hit the vintage category. She’ll hit us all one more time at the Hudson Ballroom’s vintage Britney night. The classics will be flowing between 11pm – 1:30am, with more sing-a-longs planned for long into the morning. The best bit? You can fiiiiiiiiinally put your Britney impersonating skills to good use and win a secret prize! If that’s not enough to get you to the Hudson, then the puntastic (and slightly cringey) Brit-themed drinks are bound to (think Britinis and Aperol spearitz).
When: Friday 7 July 11pm to 1.30am
Where: The Hudson Ballroom, CBD
Saturday 8 July

Fellow gin-lovers can sip on $12 happy hour draaanks between 4pm and 6pm and then bop the night away to the DJ beats. Where: Verandah Bar, The Royal Hotel Paddington
Sydney Film Festival Monthly Screening
ICYMI, Sydney Film Festival has been screening films each month at Casula. This week it’s Window Horses; following the journey of Rosie, a Canadian wanderluster with big plans to see the world. It explores her Persian background and personal epiphanies and is another uber-cultured movie to feast your eyes on. The screening also comes with a meal deal so you can dine out before you veg out. Take this as your official hot tip to come hungry, because each meal is based on the film, so helllloo Persian feast.
When: Saturday 8 July, 7.30pm
Where: Casula Powerhouse
Cost: Adult $17.50, Concession $14.50, Middle Eastern Mezze Plate $15 pp
Sunday 9 July
Sunday Bloody Sunday @ The Clare Bar
Bloody Mary’s are the perfect excuse for alcohol in the morning. This weekend $12 will get you your fix from midday and we’re definitely not complaining. Think secret spice, muddled with cucumber, to lemon and black pepper, and even the outrageous Blood Scotsman. This devilish day drink includes Johnnie Walker Black, and bacon bits. Nope. No typo there. They’ve also got virgin Marys going (in case last night was seriously just too much), and coffee, of course. You can also tuck into their $12 dishes like the southern fried chicken burger with American cheddar and spicy mayo.
When: Every Sunday from 2 July, 12pm to 4pm
Where: The Clare Bar, Chippendale
Winter Jazz @ Hotel Centennial
Did someone say brunch? Prep yourselves for unlimited strawberry and basil mimosas because, Sydneysiders, this month gives us a new winter brunch menu from the legends over at Hotel Centennial. There’s no such thing as a waffle free brunch, and we can’t wait to wrap our laughing gear around their fried chicken with chilli sauce, smoked bacon and rosemary maple syrup creation, along with their chocolate mousse complete with vanilla cream and that oh-so-smooth butterscotch sauce.
When: Every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12pm
Where: Hotel Centennial, Woollahra
Social Sundays @ Kensington Street Social
Sunday isn’t Sunday without unlimited bubbly right? Right. This weekend in Sydney spend $35 for the bottomless bubbly, or hop on that frosé bandwagon for an additional $16 and sip your way through the afternoon at Kensington Street Social. In terms of snacks, get ready to indulge in Kangaroo Island Scallops, kingfish with dill and kale, or maybe the beef tartare with beetroot jam, horseradish, and wasabi. We wouldn’t judge you for going straight for the desserts, with blueberries and almond cream or chocolate mousse both on the menu it sound like a solid plan to us. Because Sunday is the new Saturday, hop over into the Old Clare for some live music and another cocktail (or five) and keep the good times flowing.
Where: Kensington Street Social, Chippendale
