SANDWHICH
Sydney has no shortage of sandwich shops, but few arrive with a résumé quite like SANDWHICH. The new café is the first venture from brother-in-law duo Nikki and Charles, whose combined experience spans some of the city's most respected kitchens, including Restaurant Hubert, Cho Cho San, Rekōdo, Joji, Dopa, Moku, Neptune's Grotto and Dawn Baked Goods.

The idea has been years in the making. After spending more than eight years working across Sydney hospitality, the pair realised what they enjoyed most wasn't simply serving food—it was creating experiences that people wanted to return to again and again. SANDWHICH is the culmination of that ambition.
Rather than reinventing the sandwich, the café focuses on refining it. The menu is built around quality bread, carefully seasoned fillings and balanced flavours, with subtle Asian influences woven throughout in a nod to the founders' backgrounds and the kitchens that shaped their careers. Alongside the sandwiches, there'll be specialty coffee, matcha, seasonal drinks and a rotating selection of cakes and pastries, inspired in part by Nikki's time at Dawn Baked Goods.

But food is only part of the story. Nikki's background in creative direction and styling has informed almost every aspect of the venue, from the branding and interiors to the furniture, merchandise and music. The result is a space designed to feel warm and welcoming, where every detail contributes to the overall experience. Rather than creating somewhere people simply stop for lunch, they're hoping SANDWHICH becomes part of the neighbourhood fabric—a café people naturally work into their weekly routine, whether that's for a morning coffee, a catch-up with friends or a quiet solo lunch.
While the long-term ambition is to grow SANDWHICH into a recognisable hospitality brand, the focus for now is on getting the fundamentals right. The café has just wrapped up a two-week soft opening, marking the official next chapter for two hospitality professionals finally bringing a long-held idea to life.
