At Urban List, we’ll use just about any excuse to book a trip, and I’m not above turning a life milestone into a full-blown getaway. Got a ring on your finger? Bun in the oven? Perfect. You’re exactly who this guide is for.
Why? Because while most are quick to dust off their passports and jump on an international flight to celebrate these milestones, I’m here to make the case for keeping things close to home. Australia is stacked with ridiculously good honeymoon and babymoon spots that’ll have you wining, dining and reclining like you’re on a private island.
So before you book a flight to who-knows-where, scroll on for the best honeymoon and babymoon destinations in our own backyard.
Flinders Ranges
South Australia
Image credit: South Australia Tourism | Supplied
Flamin’ red dirt roads, rocky mountains and 600-million-year-old gorges set the mood out here in the Flinders Ranges. For wild-hearted lovers who consider hiking boots an essential honeymoon shoe, this otherworldly slice of South Australia delivers the kind of just-married magic you won’t find at a resort buffet.
Lace up for a bushwalk up Devil’s Peak, or make tracks to Mount Remarkable National Park and snake your way through the sheer cliffs of Alligator Gorge (I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Alligator Gorge is not reptile-related, just ridiculously beautiful). Scenic flights over Wilpena Pound bring the full jaw-drop moment: it’s like soaring over a fossilised ripple, and yes, it’s as cool as it sounds. Wind-in-your-hair, dust-on-your-boots, the Flinders Ranges is
Accommodation-wise, you've got everything from homey farm stays to stunning eco villas made from hay. Need creature comforts? Arkaba Conservancy has you stored. The restored 1850s homestead has just five rooms, open-top 4WD safaris and a fully stocked bar to toast the fact you’re not camping.
Denmark
Western Australia
I spent four nights in Denmark earlier in the year and, despite not being engaged or pregnant, it's ridiculously easy to imagine your honeymoon or babymoon unfolding in this perfect little pocket in WA's south west.
Down here, days are spent floating in the turquoise waters of Greens Pool, wandering through the ancient giants in the Valley of the Giants, and sipping your way through local vineyards like Singlefile and Forest Hill.
When it comes to where to rest your head, Heyscape’s tiny cabins are for couples craving total privacy. The pint-sizied pods are totally off-grid, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the oceanfront farm, an outdoor bath for soaks under the stars, and sweeping valley views straight from a postcard. For something a little more lowkey in the middle of town, the recently reno'd Denmark Hotel has clean, comfortable, contemporary accommodation a stone's throw from the pub.
Lord Howe Island
New South Wales
Image credit: Destination NSW | Supplied
Picture this: it’s a clear day and you’re paddling out in a kayak on the bluest lagoon you’ve ever seen with your significant human. A warm breeze rolls over, you’ve got sand on your toes and a mega vista of Jurassic mountains. You can quite literally spot turtles swimming below you.
Welcome to Lord Howe Island, where the romance is dialled up, the crowds are dialled down, and everything looks like it was plucked straight from a honeymoon mood board. It’s got just the right mix of barefoot luxury and outdoorsy fun suited to both honeymooning, babymooning, or just romantic escapes with your significant other.
There’s only a handful of places to stay on Lord Howe Island, but the one that keeps getting dropped in my group chat is Arajilla. It’s an all-inclusive boutique stay that basically sounds like a honeymoon fever dream: think moonlit beach walks, candlelit dinners, private picnics, spa sessions, breakfast in bed, and your very own snorkelling tour of that ridiculously clear lagoon.

Uluru
Northern Territory
Image credit: Longitude 131 | Website
It goes without saying, but Uluru really is one of the most magical places in Australia. Along with its deep First Nations cultural significance, this place not only clocks in as an absolute must-hit for those around the world but the offers and packages up this top-end really turn it up for the honeymooners and babymooners. Jump on a segway tours around Uluru, hike into Kata Tjuta or lap up desert dinners underneath the stars.
For newlyweds, you’re going to want to look no further than the luxury glamping situation at Longitude 131°, practically made to make you feel on cloud nine at all times of the day. Dotted among red dust dunes and with only 16 pavilions, this intimate glamping set up is unbeatable and it’s an excellent base regardless of how you spend your trip up here. While all the accommodation options here are a win, the Dune Pavilion plates up a burning view like no other (and we can’t forget the outdoor daybed, fireplace and ever romantic plunge pool overlooking the outback frontier).
Rottnest Island
Western Australia
I could wax lyrical about Rotto until the quokkas come home. Long known for its no-frills cottages and laid-back charm, the island has always been a simple—albeit special—escape for West Aussies like myself.
But things have levelled up lately. First came Samphire Rottnest, a boutique beachfront stay that brought a splash of coastal luxury to Thomson Bay and Discovery Resorts' glamping tents a stone's throw from Pinky's. Then came The Lodge Wadjemup, the luxe newcomer nestled in the island’s historic barracks.
Pair these next-gen stays with long lunches at Isola, modern Southeast Asian feasts at Lontara, and drinks at dusk at Sunsets, and you’ve got a seriously elevated take on the classic Rotto getaway. The bikes, the beaches, the quokkas—they’re all still there. Just with better beds and fluffier towels.
The Whitsundays
Queensland
Long crowned the "Heart of Romance,” I immediately understood why it’s earned that title the very first time I saw those crystal-clear waters. The Whitsundays has it all—from scenic flights over the famous Heart Reef (which, yes, really is shaped like a love heart) to hiking, swimming, and island-hopping through 74 pristine wonders packed with national parks and secret paradises. It’s a classic for a reason and hands-down one of Australia’s top spots for honeymooners and babymooners alike.
As for where you need to stay, if Cupid could stay in a real-life hotel, he’d shack right up at the oasis known as Qualia. Located on the northernmost part of Hamilton Island and surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea and Whitsundays, there’s a bunch of all-inclusive packages you can choose from to make your holiday-ing here that much more seamless with ones for the foodies out there, the ones ready to deep dive to the bottom of the ocean and the ones ready to kick it back a notch and soak in some rejuvenating facials.
Coles Bay
Tasmania
Image credit: Saffire Freycinet | Website
Sheer pink granite mountains, uncrowded beaches, and the whole of Freycinet National Park waiting to be explored—Coles Bay is practically calling your name if you’re hunting for a rugged yet romantic Aussie honeymoon spot. Whether you’re into eco cruises, quad biking, or indulging in gourmet food and wine tours, this place has it all.
Picnic Island is where I’d crash—imagine staying in a stunning copper lodge designed by Tasmanian architect John Latham, on your very own private island. Oh, and yes, seals (doggos of the sea) do occasionally pop by to say hello.
Now, if you’re seriously ready to max out your love budget, Saffire Freycinet is a total no-brainer for honeymooners and babymooners alike. Think sleek, ultra-comfy suites with floor-to-ceiling windows framing jaw-dropping views of Great Oyster Bay, world-class dining that celebrates Tassie’s finest produce, and a spa that’ll erase every last bit of wedding stress.

Venus Bay
South Australia
Image credit: Camel Beach House | Website
If you’re craving serious seclusion, I’d say pack your bags and jet to South Australia’s Venus Bay on the Eyre Peninsula. Specifically, Camel Beach House. After seeing plenty of wild wedding celebrations (with the now seemingly obligatory recovery party only adding to the madness,) I totally get the need to disappear into pure R&R (preferably without reception so the relatives can be side-stepped).
This rustic beachside hideaway, nestled in a private coastal conservation area, feels like nature’s personal reset button. You’ll be surrounded by golden sand, red rocks, blue ocean and the constant, therapeutic sound of rolling and crashing waves. It draws inspiration from the laid-back coastlines of California and Mexico, so you get that sun-soaked, far-flung feeling without the jet lag.
This is the place to escape the noise, deepen your connection, and savour every unforgettable second of your new beginning.
Ningaloo Reef
Western Australia
Image credit: Sal Salis | Website
With a dedicated honeymoon tent, you know Sal Salis is exactly where it’s at for the romantic couples out there. This gem has long been hailed as where “the outback meets the reef”, so brace yourself for the best of both worlds. Sal Salis is basically an exclusive beach safari camp nestled in the dunes of the Cape Range National Park near Exmouth on Australia’s west coast. Here you’ll find 15 eco-luxe wilderness tents on offer which overlook the Indian Ocean and bask under WA's big, blazin’ sun every day of the year.
The honeymoon tent is pitched a little further away from camp, so you’re guaranteed seduction in total solitude. It boasts a wide front deck with a double hammock, a four-poster bed and one hell of a view with uninterrupted scenes of white sand.
Activities are endless up here in Ningaloo. You can mark this new chapter of your life by snorkelling, kayaking, tackling gorge hikes too, or ticking off my own personal life-long dream of swimming with whale sharks.
Daintree
Queensland
Image credit: Daintree Ecolodge | Website
If you're anything like me, spending quality time in one of the oldest rainforests in the world sounds incredibly romantic. Eexplore the 180-million-year-old landscape on horseback with Cape Trib Horse Rides, cool off in hidden swimming holes, or celebrate your nuptials at the Daintree Ecolodge, a boutique hotel right in the heart of the forest and packed with private waterfalls and dedicated rainforest walks.
With just 15 treehouse-style villas, this eco haven is luxury wrapped in raw nature, with an open-air lagoon restaurant, a wellness spa, a sparkling swimming pool, and a pristine onsite waterfall.
For couples ready to go all in, the Daintree Romancer includes a bottle of bubbles on arrival, a gourmet platter, a six-course private degustation dinner in the rainforest, a 60-minute couples massage, and daily brekky at the Julaymba Restaurant. Pure rainforest romance.
Daylesford
Victoria
Image credit: Clifftop At Hepburn | Website
I've done Daylesford a few times now, and let me tell you, this quaint country town has a lot to offer for newlyweds. Just 90 minutes from Melbourne, there's healing mineral springs, lavender fields, luxe spa hotels, galleries galore and more chocolate-coated temptation than one couple can reasonably handle.
If you're after something truly unforgettable, book in at Clifftop at Hepburn. As a lifestyle and travel writer, I’ve spent more time than I’d care to admit Googling lust-worthy accommodation, and these architecturally designed villas still manage to blow me away. With suspended fireplaces, freestanding tubs, glass-walled bedrooms and sweeping bushland views, you'll fall in love with Daylesford (and more in love with each other) from the moment you arrive.
Kimo Estate
New South Wales
Image credit: Kimo Estate | Website
Don't let the title of 'farm stay' fool you, Kimo Estate is next-level luxe and absolutely deserves a spot on your shortlist for your babymoon or honeymoon. This luxurious country homestead plays host to everything from weddings and proposals to sheep and cattle. You can opt for the quaint cottages and rustic shearers quarters, but I'd highly recommend the Eco Huts for all lovebirds looking to unplug or upskill.
Perched high on the hilltops, the three Eco Huts are designed to be completely off-grid, offering uninterrupted views over the breathtaking Murrumbidgee River flats. And yes, each comes with its own outdoor wood-fired hot tubs, perfect for those romantic nighttime soaks under the stars.
If you manage to peel yourself away from the tub, there’s plenty more to keep you entertained: helicopter tours over Snowy Mountains wineries, plus a rotating lineup of workshops like wool felting, basket weaving, and landscape photography.
Satellite Island
Tasmania
Imahge credit: Satellite Island | Website
This teeny, tiny private island has been at the very top of my travel list for the last decade. Floating off Tasmania’s south coast, Satellite Island is raw, romantic and completely removed from reality. No reception, no shops, no roads, no neighbours. Just you, your person, and 34 acres of salty, secluded paradise.
Days here are deliciously slow: shuck oysters straight off the rocks, plunge into crystal-clear water, dry off on the jetty with a book and zero agenda, then clink local pinot by the fire as the sun sinks into the sea. You’ll have the whole island to yourselves, but to really push the boat out (literally), a private chef can boat over from the mainland to throw down a seafood feast.
Given the entire island is only 34 acres, accommodation is limited and intimate. Pick either the rustic-lux Boathouse, suspended just above the water with sweeping ocean views; the hilltop Summer House, a sleek three-bedroom weatherboard retreat; or the luxury Bell Tent for cliff-top glamping.
Freycinet National Park
Tasmania
In case you haven't clocked it yet, I have a subtle obsession with Tasmania. The southernmost tip of our wildly diverse continent has all sorts of private pockets for couples craving a bit of solitude, and Freycinet National Park is no exception.
Nestled on Tasmania’s eastern coastline, this glorious stretch of wilderness is home to the beautiful Wineglass Bay. Pumped with rugged peaks, near-empty white sand beaches and crystal waters that will leave your jaw on the floor, Freycinet is the ultimate playground for your honeymoon or babymoon. Add in fresh local produce, Tassie pinot and luxury stays, and you’ve got a recipe for a seriously good time for two.
Byron Bay
New South Wales
If a Euro honeymoon was the dream but you blew your budget on personalised cocktail stirrers and a 12-piece string quartet, Byron Bay's Raes on Wategos is your sexy, sun-soaked Plan B. With its whitewashed curves, sandcastle silhouette, mosaic features and Mediterranean influences, I can totally see the next season of White Lotus being filmed here (just without the chaos and corpse count).
Spend your mornings wading into crystal-clear waves, your afternoons grazing through the ever-evolving food scene and your evenings hopping between low-lit cocktail bars and hinterland dinners. Whether you’re hiking to the lighthouse, surfing the day away or staying horizontal for most of your stay, Byron’s got the perfect honeymoon rhythm: slow, sunny and just a little bit boujee.
