Ava Wardecki

Freelance Sub-Editor | Urban List NZ

Ava in her signature black 'fit and red lipstick.

Ava is a swiss-army-knife of communications (though she's half French, mind you). She joined Urban List in 2016 (can you believe) and has been in the orbit ever since as a freelancer across food, travel, fashion and beauty. Having worked in branding agencies, as a ghostwriter for high profile New Zealanders, fashion editor, running her own social media agency for three years, copywriter, marketing manager and everything in between.

She's a lover of fashion—though a strict uniform dresser—and exclusively seen in her signature head-to-toe black. A lover of all kinds of design (she's in a brutalism phase) Ava knows her way around the styles of the decades—not to mention, a good auction house, market, or vintage store. If her head isn't smack-bang in the middle of opshop racks, it's probably looking up at historical architecture.

A former ice-hockey player, she loves anything wintery. Her favourite kind of travel is anything that involves  northern light hunting, sub-zero temperatures and cross-country skiing—plus plenty of museums. Closer to home, you'll find her learning about local wines, watching 60's films and swatching red lipstick samples for NZ's Beauty News.

The Best Degustation Feeds In Auckland

Ah, the mighty degustation. Not only is it a chance to sample the crème de la crème of a restaurant’s dishes, it’s probs the only time you’ll be encouraged to eat nine courses in one sitting (those DIY Tim Tam degustations you have at home don’t count).

New Zealand’s Best Under-The-Radar Beach Towns

A beach escape is always a good idea. Wind in your hair, sand on your skin and the sounds of waves crashing is sometimes all you need to reset and recharge. Take that relaxation to the next level and head to one of New Zealand’s lesser-known beach towns where you can be treated to glorious views and waves—without the crowds. Thankfully, our country is practically one big beach, with plenty of under-the-radar beach towns to plant your parasol and swim and sunbathe the days away.
