Brisbane’s matcha scene is on the rise, and we have the evidence (read: influx of seriously good matcha cafés) to prove it.
For the matcha-obsessed—yes, we’re talking to those of you who can tell your ceremonial grade from your culinary—this isn’t just a vibey drink, it’s a way of life. Literally. In Japan, the act of preparing and drinking powdered green tea is as much about the daily ritual as it is about the unique taste. However you take your matcha—hot or iced, straight-up or blended in a syrupy two-tone latte—these tried-and-tested Brisbane/Meanjin cafés and dessert bars will help you get your green fix.

Supernice
Shop 4/37 Mayne Road, Bowen Hills
Supernice might be famous for their gourmet sangas, but the real hit? Their matcha lattes. If you haven’t sipped one yet, consider this your sign to head straight to Bowen Hills. Founded by a husband-and-wife duo from Kyoto, this sunlit café is part matcha bar, part design haven—the soothing interiors are defined by soft paper lanterns, timber accents and marble counters. Love it? You can even grab their matcha powder to brew at home.

Located inside one of Teneriffe’s iconic woolstores across from the riverwalk, this popular spot is perfectly positioned to swing by on your HGW. Kin’s limited edition monthly matcha flavours are idolised by locals, and for good reason. Think hot cross bun iced matchas in April (obviously) and a campfire-inspired blend for winter.

For all of you late-night matcha addicts (we see you), Shiro Gelato in the CBD is open until 10pm every night. Order your matcha with a side of onigiri or Japanese-inspired gelato (or both, if you're in the mood for a food coma), and don’t skip the kokuto matcha latte for a sweet and earthy taste explosion. Fun fact: Shiro also has a café at the base of Mount Fuji, so you know they’re the real deal.

If you’ve ever wanted to dine in a Kyoto teahouse, skip the long-haul flight and head to Koto Sanpo Cafe. Inspired by the city of shrines, this Japanese dessert bar will take your matcha addiction to a whole new level. Lola's Coffee Bar, a family-owned business, is well known for its TikTok-viral drinks with a Filipino twist. There are two locations to get your matcha fix: inside the Zenith Lounge barbershop in Tarragindi or on Kelvin Grove’s Musk Avenue in a snug space that’s basically made for a sip and yap with friends. Expect matcha drinks infused with flavours like ube, pandan, strawberry, pistachio… the list goes on—and we’re not mad about it.
Priorities
2/95 Samford Road, Alderley
At Priorities, it’s not just their birthday matcha cold foam that makes every day feel like a celebration. Housed in a white weatherboard shack on Brisbane’s north side, this trendy coffee nook comes at you with a lively atmosphere, brat-green menu and always-banger playlist that keeps the energy high, day or night. Back to the matcha: their rotating blends, from strawberry matcha lattes to the aforementioned birthday matcha, never miss. It’s no wonder locals keep coming back for more (and so, we predict, will you).
Sincerity By Jacorey
5 Cremin Street, Upper Mount Gravatt
Pastries. Dessert. Specialty matcha… need we say more? Sincerity By Jacorey, a café on the south side, is dishing up Korean-inspired eats and next-level matcha that will have you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished the first sip. The extensive drinks list is stacked with flavours like iced mango matcha, yuzu matcha iced tea, matcha tiramisu cream latte and more. Feeling indecisive? Ask for a beverage recommendation and they’ll surprise you.
Mountain River Patisserie
84 Mango Street, Runcorn
Craving a getaway to Japan? Always, duh. But if you can’t get away right now, Mountain River Patisserie is the next best thing. This serene southside spot, run by husband-and-wife duo Sing and Befian, is a full sensory escape, complete with a zen rock garden, minimalist timber-and-stone interiors, and a traditional Japanese tea bar. Sip on premium Uji matcha prepared in a chawan, or go for the iced matcha latte or Ichigo (strawberry) matcha for something a little sweeter. Don’t skip the desserts—think Hokkaido cheesecakes, matcha canelés, and delicate castella cakes, all served on hand-crafted ceramics.
Wuta Brewer
Shop 12/97 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane CBD

Wuta Brewer is a serene pocket in the heart of the city serving up some seriously good matcha. Come for the hot matcha, poured into cosy hug mugs at just the right sipping temp, and stay for the famed matcha soft serve. There’s also an array of specialty drinks, from the iced coconut matcha to the strawberry matcha float. Bonus points for the presentation, as everything is served on Japanese-style bamboo trays worthy of a quick pic (the camera eats first, after all).
Mitch & Antler
62 Suez Street, Mitchelton
On the north side, Mitchelton’s Mitch & Antler nails the café trifecta—good vibes, great plates, and a signature matcha frappe that lives rent-free in our heads. This cosy neighbourhood café puts a modern spin on classic all-day breakfast dishes that pair perfectly with, you guessed it, a chilled matcha frappe. Just don’t sleep on booking ahead if you want to avoid food envy—the tables fill up fast.
Mean Beanz Espresso
60 Blamey Street, Kelvin Grove
Kelvin Grove Urban Village is hiding a local matcha favourite: Mean Beanz Espresso. This eclectic, hole-in-the-wall espresso bar has been treating the neighbourhood to top-notch brews and treats for over a decade now. And like a fine wine, they just keep getting better—especially when it comes to their matcha game (trust us, they do exceptionally good matcha lattes). If you’re with a coffee lover, they’ll be delighted by crowd-pleasers such as the nutella latte, biscoff latte, and white chocolate mocha.
Bonsai Botanika
107/109 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane CBD
Spread across three timber-clad levels on Elizabeth Street, Bonsai Botanika channels the vibe of a Kyoto kissaten with homey nooks, communal tables, and street-side perches to sip and people watch. The Japanese-inspired aesthetic is just as on point as the matcha. Our insider recommendation? We love the iced matcha latte with white chocolate and peppermint, plus the flourless matcha cake drizzled in matcha syrup.
Little Florence
30 Florence Street, Teneriffe

Tucked within an ivy-covered woolstore, Little Florence is giving Princess Peach in café form. Expect peach-pink everything—from the menus to the milk frothers and their flagship strawberry matcha latte (yes, it’s the one you’ve seen all over TikTok). Prepare for a sweet lil’ sip of pink and green goodness that’s creamy, dreamy, and definitely worth the online hype.
Kusuka Corner
Market Square, 341 Mains Road, Sunnybank
Sunnybank’s Kusuka Corner is equal parts style and substance. The interiors are bright, bold, and made for your feed, while the menu boasts a slew of Indonesian-inspired dishes. But the real showstopper? Their berry matcha—a beautifully layered iced pink latte bursting with fresh strawberry notes and finished with a velvety matcha cream on top. It’s the ultimate combo of sweet and savoury, making it a standout for matcha lovers and the ultimate refreshment to snap, sip, and repeat. Trust us, this one’s worth the trip.
