Oktoberfest at Brisbane German Club

In a huge Australian first, the Brisbane German Club is hosting the most authentic Oktoberfest celebration outside of Munich—securing all six of the Official Oktoberfest breweries on tap for the occasion. This is undoubtedly worth dusting off your Lederhosen, as these holy grails of German beer have never all been available at one Australian venue at the same time. Across four October weekends, the historic Vulture Street spot will showcase each brewery’s flagship offering as well as the very best beer across the land, with approximately 130 different beer styles on offer to fill your stein. Feel Good Program
Get ready to sweat, stretch and strengthen without spending a cent because Brisbane’s favourite (and totally free) outdoor workout series is back this spring. South Bank’s Feel Good Program offers a jam-packed lineup of yoga, Pilates, Zumba, body combat, and aqua classes designed for all ages and fitness levels. In the Valley we wear pink, as Goros Brisbane unleashes a cherry blossom takeover: an explosion of neon pink brilliance inspired by Japan’s iconic blooms. The fashion-forward 90s showcase features all things colour, camp, pop culture and community—from fearless self-expressions of LGBTQIA+ identity to the Brisbane-based labels that defined the era. Coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality, the immersive exhibition is your chance to engage with personal stories that unfolded on the underground nightclub and dance party scene. The Terrace Flower Market
Spring has officially sprung, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and flowers are in bloom. Under A Modern Sun
Sun-kissed and light-filled, QAGOMA’s new and free exhibition features more than 140 paintings, sculptures, photographs and works of decorative art that paint a picture of what life was like in the Sunshine State from the 1930s to 1950s. Featuring art from renowned Brisbane-based artists including William Bustard, Vida Lahey and Margaret Olley, as well as luminaries from the regions such as Kenneth Macqueen and Joe Alimindjin Rootsey, Under A Modern Sun presents a “light-filled vision of Queensland and reveals the beginnings of more experimental means of expression," QAGOMA Director Chris Saines says. MoB Common People Dance Project

Shimmy and shake your way to the Museum of Brisbane (MoB) for their sequin-soaked Artist in Residence with Common People Dance Project. In collaboration with Brisbane Festival, MoB is throwing an all-out dance party—complete with free dance workshops and an exhibition celebrating the Common People’s history, led by the talented choreographer, performer and theatre-maker Neridah Waters. To top it all off, there’ll be a dance showdown in King George Square on 27 September, so chuck on those leg warmers and get physical, because nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Brisbane Writers Festival
They say the pen is mightier than the sword, and you’ll find plenty of new ways to sharpen yours with the highly anticipated return of the Brisbane Writers Festival. Unveiling a star-studded program held for the first time at the Brisbane Powerhouse this October, you can expect more than 100 live events including author talks, conversations, panel discussions and special events.
So who’s on the list? Homegrown headline authors include Helen Garner, Trent Dalton, Sally Hepworth, Michael Robotham, Di Morrissey and Anita Heiss. Back and more fabulous than ever, Brisbane’s annual festival of queer arts and culture is gearing up for a city-wide celebration featuring internationally acclaimed artists, homegrown icons, and boundary-pushing brilliance. From the Queensland premiere of enGORGEd by the sharp-witted and Swarovski-studded Reuben Kaye to Ben Graetz’s Miss First Nation drag pageant, you can expect a powerful line-up full of pride at this year’s Melt Festival.
