5 Awesome Things To Do In Melbourne This Week

By Gen Phelan - 12 Mar 2018

Whether you’ve exhausted your Insta stories and your entire wardrobe from VAMFF-ing way too hard, or you’re nursing the Hangover From Hell after a long weekender bender, we’ve got some TLC coming your way this week.

Bid the tumble-dryer-tummy farewell with some greasy BBQ Pop Up goodness, or down a coupla' sangrias at The Queen Vic’s Latin Night and get some time-old hair of the dog. Dayum, your agenda’s shaping up nicely.

Here’s what’s on this week in Melbs...

Tuesday 13 March

Lillie’s Q BBQ Pop Up at Fancy Hanks

Oi carnivores, we hope you’re Jurassic Park T-Rex Level hungry, because BBQ aficionado Charlie McKenna is bringing his award-winning restaurant Lillie’s Q to Melbourne for a three-day meat eating extravaganza. Charlie’s Chicago-style menu promises slow-smoked pork shoulder, baby back ribs and unparalleled chicken wings. Yeah, you might need a napkin or 100.

Where: Fancy Hanks, 79 Bourke Street
When: Tuesday 13-Thursday 15 March, 5-11pm

Vintage Wine Showcase at Ricky & Pinky

Wine and dine is a rhyme one can rarely turn down. The vino vendors at MW Wines are joining forces with Ricky & Pinky to put on the spread of all spreads. They’re pitting the best of 2015 Vintage Victorian wine against the heroes of 2015 vintage Burgundy. Soak up the contenders with a four-course Hong Kong-style Chinese menu. Swish swish, bish. Get your sommelier on.

Where: Ricky & Pinky, 211 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy
When: Tuesday 13 March, 7pm for a 7:30pm start

Wednesday 14 March

Envisage that Livin’ La Vida Loca dance number at the end of Shrek 2 (you know the one) and you’re kinda close to capturing the all-round feel-good vibes of Queen Vic Latin Night. This Wednesday, Queen Vic are parading salsa dancers and housing flamenco workshops to well and truly bring the L Shed down. And don’t you dare consider going without chasing some Spanish paella with a few icy sangrias.

Where: The Queen Victoria Market, Queen Street, Melbourne
When: Wednesday 14 March, 5pm-10pm

Thursday 15 March

Pastuso’s Peruvian Pop-Up at Melba Restaurant

If you had plans, cancel them. Alejandro Saravia of cult Peruvian restaurant, Pastuso, is gracing Melba Restaurant at The Langham this week. Melba’s all about well-travelled plates, but never before has it ventured into Peruvian fare. Expect slow-cooked alpaca shoulder croquettes and wagyu beef spring rolls. Yep, really.

Where: Melba Restaurant, The Langham, 1 Southgate Ave, Southbank
When: Thursday 15 March

QV Melbourne’s Outdoor Cinema

Don’t let the G-rating deter you. Animation Week at QV is for all the kids, especially the big ones. Technicolour, jovial screenings are kicking off this week with F-R-E-E popcorn (!!) and fairy floss (!!!) on alternating nights. A little birdie told us that before the Trolls screening (what a flick), an entourage of movers and shakers will even be performing Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling. Boogie wonderlaaand.

Where: QV Square (level 2), QV Melbourne, corner Lonsdale and Swanston Streets, Melbourne
When: Animation Week: Thursday 15-Sunday 18 March. (Further screenings up until Saturday 31 March), times vary
