Spring has well and truly sprung this week in Melbourne and we are digging it! We’ve got floral arranging, ballet, Italian cinema, rooftop camping and, of course, culinary delights for you to enjoy.
Read on for details of our top five things to do in Melbourne this week.
Spring Express with Flowers Vasette
It wouldn’t be a classic spring week without some floral arranging, right? Flowers Vasette are hosting floral workshops every Tuesday in September for those wanting to try their hands at the art of floristry. The Spring Express workshop will focus on spring flower types and how to select the best, colour and composition, plus how to care for your gorgeous blooms. Don't miss out on this hour-long class with no more than 10 people per session: email ASAP to book.
The Australian Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty
Prepare to be swept away by David McAllister’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’, a modern take on one of our favourite fairytales which will have you swooning over both its choreography and costume design. A world premiere set for the Arts Centre Melbourne stage on September 15th, if you are yet to experience the ballet, we think this will be a rather magical first! Click through to The Australian Ballet for bookings.
Lavazza Italian Film Festival
It’s that time again! The Italian Film Festival kicks off on September 16th and will showcase a total of 32 films until October 11th. Head along and catch ‘God Willing’ at the opening night gala, a comedic film that explores family ties, religion and changing values. Taking out the award for Best New Director at the Italian Oscars, this is one not to be missed. Click here to book tickets and here for more details on our Italian Film Festival picks.
Setting Up Camp with Art Series Hotel & St Jeromes
We love a clever collaboration and The Art Series Hotel meets St. Jerome's – The Hotel is one hell of a mix! The Art Series Hotel group (comprising of The Cullen, The Olsen, The Blackman, The Schaller and The Larwill) will take over St. Jerome's – The Hotel from September 18th to 20th. Each St. Jerome's tent will feature art books and prints by these acclaimed Australian artists, as well as artistic documentaries on each tent’s Samsung tablet for viewing. Free rooftop yoga and meditation sessions will also take place as part of ‘The Art of Wellbeing’. Get in quick to secure your spot.
Winning Tastes Pavilion at Royal Melbourne Show
Show bags and carnival rides, step aside. 2015’s Royal Melbourne Show welcomes the Winning Tastes Pavilion—a celebration of Melbourne’s best eateries with pop-up restaurants, food tastings and live demonstrations. Kicking off on September 19th will be Adriano Zumbo’s sweet treats in the pavilion's Dessert Bar. Middle-eastern gem Rumi will also be featured from September 19th to 22nd, serving up their exotic plates to hungry show-goers. Grab your Ticket to Taste and get ready to dig in.
