It’s Christmas! Everybody start screaming, celebrating and jingle bell-ing because the merry season is nigh upon us! We know that you’ll all be tied up with awkward family events and staff parties with way too much alcohol, but if you get a spare second here are 5 awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.
All Week Long
Christmas Spending From Sunset to Sunrise
Now it’s almost too late to do your Christmas shopping, but that’s what Melbourne was counting on. With the big day coming up quick, local shopping centres and the CBD will have extended shopping hours for everyone to furiously try and find some last minute prezzies. Highpoint has a 24-hour shopping marathon, while our friends at Eastland will extend their hours so you can find the perfect gift (if you’re in need of help, just check out our Christmas gift guide) Good luck, and may the best elbow-shoving trolley-pushing lunatic win!
Shop The City
Time is running out for you to grab that perfect gift, and given that there are more than 1,000 shops to choose from in Melbourne’s CBD why would you go anywhere else? Couple that with 24-hour public transport, extended trading hours (major centres are now open to 9pm until Christmas), and a heap of dining options to choose from you can’t go wrong.
When: Now until December 25
Where: Melbourne Central, Emporium Melbourne, QV Melbourne, GPO Melbourne and The Strand Melbourne

Moo-ving Into Melbourne
If you haven’t heard of Milkcow yet, then you’re seriously missing out, because this is really ice cream worth raving about. Having opened their uber-successful pop-up earlier this year, the Korean organic ice-cream brand is opening a permanent store in a secret location this week! In celebration, the brand new store will be giving away 100 free ice-creams to the early birds, so get in quick as it is first in best dressed. Watch this space for more info on where to get creamy soft serve this summer.

Get Off The Grid
A cool, modern festival is coming to Melbourne this week in the form of a solar-powered celebration designed to change the cities we live in. Off The Grid takes place on the longest day of the year, with music, food and general festival shenanigans all powered by the sun. With not one bit of rubbish sent to landfill, this festival is set to be one of the most environmentally friendly events of the year. Headlining are Melbourne improvisers Albrecht La'Brooy and underground musician Andee Frost, as well as talks and seminars from Australian environmentalists, architects, activists, and foodies. Have a look at the lineup and grab more information here.

A Royal Affair
Back this year with more fun and fervour than ever before, the Royal Croquet Club is wrapping up this week after some of the best croquet we’ve seen in a long while. With amazing food from Gelato Messina, 8Bit, Up In Smoke, Hoy Pinoy, and more, there’ll also be the epic closing party featuring Aston Shuffle and Generik. For some cool beats, quality grub and good vibes, head down to Birrarung Marr this week. More info available here.
