Melbourne winter weekends can be a little grim, so we’re here to make yours a bit brighter. If smoky meat dinners, pumping cycle rides and designer furniture auctions don’t get you smiling, we don’t know what will. Besides, mid-week shopping and over eating are pretty much essential to get you through the working week.

Here are five awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.

Monday 14 August

Re-Love Project Auction

ATTENTION. There’s some uber-cool furniture being auctioned off this week.  For the fifth year in a row, specialist wood care brand Feast Watson is launching the Re-Love Project, which will see timber furniture from six of Australia’s top designers auctioned off to raise money for the Salvos. All items are up for grabs today, so if you want to get your mitts on a new lounge room centerpiece, you gotta get bidding. Head to the Feast Watson Re-Love Project website or follow @feast_watson on Instagram to see which pieces catch your eye. The pieces themselves are up on eBay.

When: Monday August 14
Where: eBay (check the event for links to the designers' online stores)

Bodhi And Ride At Kingpin Crown

Pedals at the ready, it’s time to cycle. Bohdi and Ride is Port Melbourne’s fav cycle studio, and for this week only they’re transforming Kingpin at Crown into their very own high-energy spin chamber. Each class will only set you back 25 smackaroos and is guaranteed to have you breaking a sweat. We’re talking a full body, guns and pins workout. There’ll be bouncing tunes and low lights to help you ignore the fact you’re actually doing exercise (and potentially hide up the back where the Spin instructor can’t see you). Get your tickets ASAP. All fitness levels welcome.

When: 5pm, 6pm, 7pm August 14-15
Where: Kingpin Crown Casino

Wednesday 16 August

Darebin Arts Speakeasy Present Niche

“Niche” is here, Melbourne, and it’s looking like the indie theatre event of the season. Emily Tomlins and Eryn Jean Norvill are the brains behind the project, whose story centres around a pop star named Niche. The production explores themes of belonging and replication, while delving into Niche’s troubled upbringing. Sounds interesting huh? It’s on at the Northcote Town Hall. Get in early to score your tickets.

When: 7.30pm Wednesday August 16
Where: Northcote Town Hall, Main Hall

Thursday 17 August

Fancy Hanks Majestic Hawker Pop-Up

Smokey glazed meats are popping back into our lives this August, thanks to Majestic Hawker. Singaporean chef Alicia Cheong (Fancy Hanks) is bringing Melbournians a hawker-style BBQ that promises some truly epic wings and skewers. The toasty warehouse setting in Abbotsford will feature an open fire kitchen surrounded by share tables and great tunes. If you’re really feeling adventurous, we suggest hooking into the grilled stingray wrapped in banana leaf (the sting has been removed). Tickets for this one are selling quickly, so Fancy Hanks have put on another seating at 6pm. Get in quick.

When: 6pm-10pm, Thursday August 17
Where: 245 Johnson Street, Abbotsford

Talk & Taste With Pacdon Park

James Arrowsmith of Echuca free-range butchery Pacdon Park will be joining the Talk & Taste session at Fed Square this month. James will be showcasing all things Pacdon Park, with their award winning haggis expected to make an appearance. You’ll get the chance to sample pork pies, followed by a three-course dinner that will include haggis and whisky (be brave, you can do this). Potentially the most British thing to ever happen to Melbourne...apart from, you know colonisation. There’s never been a better time to indulge in fine eats, learn about local food and eat haggis with your eyes closed.

When: 6.30pm-8pm, Thursday August 17
Where: Vaults 15-19 Federation Wharf, Federation Square
