Ah romance, there’s nothing quite like it. Staring deeply into each other’s eyes, holding those hands and cuddling just warms the heart.  And to help you make that love even stronger, we’ve rounded up Auckland’s most romantic restaurants. These places will leave you feeling like you’re living your own rom com or fairy tale. Text, call, poke your better half now and let them know you’ve got the next date sorted. Food, wine, views, they’re all here.

Enjoy the masterpieces brought to you by chef and owner Sid Sahrawat, while overlooking some of the best views in Auckland from Sidart. If you’re in the mood to try something different, head to the test night on Tuesdays—the menu changes weekly to bring you a surprise the team has been working on. Or, opt for the Discovery Menu available Wednesday to Saturday. It consists of seven courses and some appetisers that look like a dream.

The Grove

Warm and cosy, The Grove is the perfect destination for romance. The flavours will take you away and you’ll find it difficult to pick a favourite dish. Here you’ll find  degustation dining—you can choose petit degustation consisting of nine items or full degustation consisting of twelve. Oh, and we can’t forget about the wine —The Grove has you covered with a comprehensive list.

Freemans Bay

For a dimly lit and intimate setting, head to Clooney. If you’re vegetarian, don’t worry there’s a special menu dedicated just for you. Why not go all out and experience the private dining area where you’ll get to see executive chef Jacob Kear perform all the magic right in front of your eyes?

Paris Butter

Paris. Butter. The name says it all. Treat yourself and your date, you will not be disappointed. Have your ‘gram ready for the pics that look too good to be true. You can’t get enough of this place, and guess what you might even get a French kiss at the end (from your date ofc). J’adore <3

The raw bar offers quality New Zealand fish for their sashimi selection and seafood platters. The tapas feature both hot and cold appetizers, so take your pick. Experience a something different at Azon. It’s a Filipino-inspired restaurant where every dish tells a story of culture and history. The food is great and beautifully laid out—we recommend the chicken and pork abodo or the prawn curry. The amount of thought that’s gone into the interior decorations is inspirational too.

Waiheke Island

You don’t need to book a flight to be transported to a magical destination! All you need to do is hop onto a ferry to Mudbrick. With stunning views overlooking the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland City, this is one to steal your heart. You’ll feel like a main character in one of those rom coms that you love. The menu changes regularly, but we can assure you, you won’t be disappointed. Easily one of the most beautiful restaurants in Auckland, head to Ortolana in the evening and sit beneath the twinkling lights for some serious romantic vibes.
