Guildford’s Historic Post Office Is Set To Become A Hot New Major Hospitality Venue

Parcels are returning to the old Guildford Post Office, but not in the way you were expecting. This local Perth icon is about to get a multi-million-dollar restoration as a hospitality haven featuring a chic, charm-fuelled restaurant and cafe. Duly named Parcels, the venue’s name is a deliberate nod to the building’s original life, and will serve as both a European-inspired bistro and French patisserie, operating across the day and into the night (we love) which will accommodate 150 people and be open 7 days a week (we love even more).

“During the day, the focus will be on great coffee, pastries, cakes and approachable café and bistro food,” Elliott Chipper, one of the developers at Bilgoman Property told Urban List, while "in the evening, Parcels will transition into a relaxed European-inspired bistro, for dinner, good wine and a longer catch-up with friends and family. We want it to feel special enough to be a destination, but relaxed and approachable enough that Guildford and Perth Hills locals can make it their regular.”

Designed by J.H. Grainger, the post office first opened in 1897 as the suburb’s first purpose-built postal and telegraph facility, before the building’s famous clock tower was officially installed and commissioned by Western Australia's First Premier, Sir John Forrest, in 1901. A neighbourhood staple, the post office went on to play host to Australia Post for 120 years.

The restoration will ensure all that oozing charm is kept intact, with the $2.5 million development including careful refreshes of the so-called weather struck clock tower along with all the new exciting additions.
