When you get a bit old (i.e. not 18 anymore) getting the urge to go dancing can become quite problematic. You’re not young enough to blend in with the crowd at tha club anymore; you’re also a bit too old to go anywhere that only kicks off around 2am, because hey, you need your sleep; but you’re not old enough to head to local RSL and bop around to Frank Sinatra just yet.
So where can you go dancing in Perth that doesn’t suck?
The number of different music events happening at this rad music venue is almost head-spinning. Not only does The Ellington have loads of talented live acts playing their original jazz, they also host tribute nights like Throwback 90’s and We Love Disney night. If that doesn't make you want to toe-tap, nothing will.
The Jazz Cellar
Head underground to The Jazz Cellar, where you can enjoy live tunes played by an old group of musician friends. It’s small and intimate, so you’ll be rubbing shoulders with the dancers next to you—but you’ll be loving every minute of it, we promise.
If you’re keen for some thigh-slapping, knee-popping dancing then make your way to this American-style bar. If the live band playing ‘deep south’ country music doesn’t make you want to dance, the selection of bourbons and whiskeys at Alabama Song certainly will.
The live dining room at the back of Laneway Lounge plays host to some top notch live music acts every Friday and Saturday night. So if you’re down for some decadent cocktails with a side of boogying, you know where to go.
Jack Rabbit Slims
Follow the white rabbit down the rabbit hole at Jack Rabbit Slim’s and through the refrigerator doors to the live music room. They host a wide variety of live music including rock, indie, hip hop, R&B and electronic music for you to throw some shapes to.
Mojos has a huge variety of live music with bands playing every night of the week. Ergo—many opportunities to boogie.
The Bird hosts underground music and arts every night of the week, but if you want to really bust a move, keep the second Thursday of every month free so you can attend their hip hop karaoke night.
Hidden away upstairs at the Leederville Hotel, Babushka is a vibrant little live music venue. You can dance the night away to some super talented local, national and international musicians playing a variety of music from soul to punk, hip hop to metal and reggae to pop.
If you like your music and dancing served with tacos and tequila, then El Grotto is the place for you. This Mexican style bar provides some of Perth’s best local music each week, with both talented DJs and great local bands for you to dance the night away to.
Rodney’s Bait & Tackle
If you enjoy dancing to acoustic beats, then head to everyone’s favourite fishing-themed bar. The live music at Rodney’s will make you want to rock, sway and sing along to their sea shanties.
So much room for activities, Badlands Bar has a big festival-style beer garden music venue, a main gig room and a smaller intimate live music area. You won’t struggle to find a spot to dance, that’s for sure.
