1st Dec 2017

We’ve made it, boys and girls. The silly season is finally here. And you know what that means? Well, besides the fact that Perth will be coming alive with loads of festive fun, it also means we can eat, drink and be merry every single day and NOT FEEL GUILTY. Because Christmas.

Here are some of the best things to do in Perth this December, whether its Christmas markets, live music, or some hot tips for where to celebrate your Chrissie and New Years Eves.

May your days be merry and bright, friends.

Fidelity Festival | 2 December

Red Hill Auditorium

This brand spanking new boutique music festival has a fairly impressive line-up for you. The likes of alt-J, The Shins and Warpaint (just to name a few) will be rocking your socks off in the spectacular amphitheatre setting of Red Hill Auditorium. Yes please.

Urban Wine Walk Perth | 2 December

Urban Wine Walk will see the streets, laneways and footpaths of Northbridge come alive as a line up of the Perth's best venues open their doors, transforming into the ultimate cellar door experience. You'll enjoy one of a kind experiences at a hand-picked selection of local bars and restaurants while sampling wines from the best wine producers Australia has to offer—think Happs, House of Cards, Tomfoolery and Alpha Box & Dice.

SummerSalt 2017 | 2 & 3 December

3 Oceans Margaret River & Rottnest Island

As if you needed an excuse to go to Margaret River or Rottnest… but in case you do, IT'S THE CAT EMPIRE! If you have never seen these guys play live, then there is a void in your life that must be filled immediately—preferably with a ticket to SummerSalt. This event is across two dates at two venues, showcasing some of the most beautiful, sunlit locations with some of the best live acts from across the country. As well as The Cat Empire, you can also expect to see Xavier Rudd and Lucy Peach.

Jack Johnson at Kings Park | 6 December

Kings Park

Can you think of any better way to spend a summer night than listening to the laid-back sound of Jack Johnson in the tranquil surrounds of Kings Park? Nope, we can’t either. Jack is back, and he and his band will be cranking out all your favourites as well as some new material from their latest album.

Banana Social: Ice Cream Factory | From 9 December

Roe Street, Northbridge

As of Saturday 9 December, the team at Banana Social are taking over Ice Cream Factory every Saturday night. Featuring four stages, a silent disco, karaoke bar, rooftop deck, bowling alley, eats including burgers, coconut meat tacos and the brand new Perth ice cream company, Denada Co's sugar free ice cream, plus drinks from the likes of Gage Roads, Corona, Hello Sunshine Cider, Moët & Chandon, Cape Mentelle and Veuve Clicquot—this is a party you’re going to want to get around.

Grape Escape's Wine, Dine and Tash Sultana | 9 December

3 Oceans Wine, Margaret River

Love music? Love wine-tastings? Love food? Love Tash Sultana? Well the good people at Grape Escape had this rad idea, where you pay for a ticket and in return they drive you around to three wineries for tastings, get you a delicious share plate for lunch (with more wine), and then bring you back all ready to enjoy your love performance by Tash Sultana. Brilliant.

Texas at Astor | 15 December

Astor Theatre, Mount Lawley

Ever heard of a little known Scottish outfit called Texas? They sang that song Say What You Want and that other one called Inner Smile—probably some others too, but you definitely danced around to their tunes in the ‘90s. Well despite their international fame, they have never actually been to Australia, but now they are coming! They’ll be rocking out at The Astor, so if you were devastated way back when that they never toured here, now is your time.

Sweat With Fearless Activewear | 16 December

Lake Monger

Exercising makes you feel good (because endorphins) but its even better when half of your class fee is going to a charity. The team at Fearless are bringing some of Perth's best trainers to workout with you all in celebration of their 2nd birthday. There will be a mixture of boxing and bodyweight moves, and half of your $10 class ticket goes straight to Perth women’s charity. Plus there will be some amazing local businesses on the day like The Acai Brothers providing post-workout snacks.

Pitch Perfect 3 Preview Screening | 22 December

Event Cinemas Innaloo

We aren’t normally ones to watch films at the cinemas (mainly because we’re lazy and would just rather wait for it to be on Stan) but Pitch Perfect 3 is an exception. If you haven’t seen 1 and 2, stop reading this article and go watch them both right now. We will go as far to say this is one of the most underrated comedies we’ve seen in a long time, so we are wetting ourselves with excitement that this month, Event Cinemas are doing preview screenings of film number 3. Get us there.

Christmas Eve at The Left Bank | 24 December

The Left Bank, East Fremantle

It’s the old philosophical question that has plagued Western Australians for years - if it’s December 24 but you’re not at The Left Bank, did Christmas Eve still happen? The answer is, probably not. The biggest Christmas Eve party in town is back again, so you can enjoy a festive drink, a vibing atmosphere, live DJ sets and of course a speccy view over the river.

Coast Christmas Eve feat. Sun City Live | 24 December

Coast Port Beach

Your day will definitely be merry and bright at Coast’s Chrissie Eve party. Sun City will be performing their summery, upbeat, electronic pop while the sun starts to set over the Indian Ocean. Add to the mix DJs spinning party jams, Christmas cocktails, and Coast’s signature pizzas and snacks, and you have a beauty of an evening.

Embargo Bar New Years Eve | 31 December

Elizabeth Quay

What better way to see in the New Year than under the stars with views of the Perth skyline, Lizzie Quay and the Swan River. Kicking off from 6pm and running through til 1, Embargo’s NYE soiree will include some of Perth's best DJs and bands; drinks from the likes of Little Creatures, Gage Roads, Somersby, Veuve and Moet; and Eats from the Embargo Kitchen, The Fish Boss and The Pizza Lounge.

Bar Pop NYE Party 2017 | 31December

The Ice Cream Factory, Northbridge

If you’ve ever wondered what type of formula you need to create a cracking New Years Eve, this is it. Eight dancefloors. Eleven bars. A bowling alley. Pop bars from the likes of Mechanics' Institute, El Grotto and The Dominion League. A silent disco. Rooftop sun decks. And drag queen karaoke. If there is a better way to round out your 2017, we’d like to know what it is.
