The final month of winter is finally upon us and although we’ve been pretty lucky with the weather this year we still have to say we’re excited for winter to be over. That said, we will be packing in as much winter goodness as we can this fine month, and looking at the line-up that won’t be hard.
August offers everything from musicals and markets to beer, wine and cider festivals, plus a whole lot of food, a bit of K-Pop and some serious feasts. So give cabin fever the shrug for one last month, here are 15 amazing things to do in Perth this August.
Raine Square Fashion Film Festival At Palace Raine Square
Palace Raine Square, Perth’s most sophisticated cinema, is rolling out the red carpet this August (and part of September) for the inaugural Raine Square Fashion Film Festival. Catch flicks like Jean Paul Gaultier: Freak & Chic, Breakfast At Tiffany’s and The September Issue and enjoy goody bags, photo booth fun and pre-movie cocktails. It all kicks off on 1 August with a fashion parade thanks to Perth Fashion Festival.
High Cheese At TWR
High teas are pretty close to perfect, but add a whole slew of cheese into the mix and your taste buds hit all new pleasure levels. TWR, one of Perth’s most beautiful bars, is hosting High Cheese every day between 5pm and 9pm featuring baked fondue, mini gruyere gougères, four cheese croquettes with truffle mayo and loads more. Pinot Palooza At Claremont Showgrounds
If the largest touring Pinot Noir festival on the planet sounds like somewhere you need to be, then you’re in luck this month because Pinot Palooza is back for its biggest year yet. Their line-up of pinot producers showcases the very best of Australia’s drops, so you can go and soak up the country through your wine glass. Also, unlike lots of these things, Pinot Palooza tickets include unlimited wine tastings.
World Oyster Week
World Oyster Day is 5 August, but Odyssea in City Beach loves the tasty molluscs so much they’re dedicating an entire week to them. They’re slinging a lunch and dinner menu that perfectly pairs oysters and wines, featuring flavours like chardonnay chilli jelly, gin and tonic, and panko crumb with jalapeno dressing. Canteen Pizza is getting in the spirit on the Monday too, with a special edition of their famed Pizza & Pinot nights starring Perth’s oyster shucker extraordinaire Jerry Fraser.
Bring It On The Musical At His Majesty’s Theatre
Spirit fingers at the ready, Bring It On The Musical will be making its Perth debut this winter. Heading to His Majesty's Theatre for a very short season, the Broadway smash hit includes incredible aerial stunts (performed by world-class cheerleaders) and choreography that'll rival that of Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku.
Fire, Fable & Feast At Core Cider House
Brought to us by the legends at Core Cider House, Fire, Fable & Feast is hitting the hills this August. Along with toasty mulled cider and an orchard bonfire, there'll be roving food, a live band, fire twirlers and jesters to get you celebrating yet another successful harvest.
Perth Craft Beer Festival At The Ice Cream Factory
The biggest beer festival in WA is back this August and it’s promising loads of brews, gourmet eats, a silent disco, rides and plenty of fun. If you can only get to Perth Craft Beer Festival for one day make it for the ultimate Sunday session complete with fire pits, cosy corners and all the relaxed vibes.
100km Dinner At A Secret Location
In collaboration with A Taste of Chittering, Secret Suppers is hosting a rustic long table dinner in a secret location this August featuring an open-air fire, live music and incredible eats; but there’s a twist. The chefs are taking on the challenge to only use products that can be found within a 100km radius of the event—which can only mean good things for you given this North East region is teeming with incredible local produce.
K-Pop Party Invasion At Badlands Bar

Celebrating the incredible work the CNB crew has done over the last six years in raising over a quarter of a million dollars for the Leukaemia Foundation, the event is hosted by Heyder & Shears. Chevron City To Surf
It’s not too late to sign up for this year’s City to Surf. If you haven’t been hitting the pavement on the regular you can still take a crack at the 4km walk or run, while seasoned runners can sign up for the 12km run (or walk). There’s also a 21km half marathon and 42km marathon in case you’re crazy.
