By Natasha Gamra - 13 Dec 2018

Buttering up the popcorn and firing up Netflix has got to be our favourite thing ever. If you’re anything like us we know you don’t relish in spending hours scrolling for something half decent to kick back to.

Here are all the best movies to watch on Netflix right now.

This one has pretty much been dubbed the “Movie of the year”. ROMA is at the head of the pack as a strong Oscar contender and has been inundated with a sling of US critics’ awards as the most personal project to date from Academy Award-winning director and writer Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien). ROMA follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighbourhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy among political turmoil of the 1970s. ROMA will be available on Netflix December 14.

Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle

Raised solely by animals, Mowgli is a heart-warming story about how a boy becomes reunited with humans, but also keeping his jungle family safe. With big names like Christian Bale and Benedict Cumberbatch in the mix, this one is well worth your time.

To prove a point about measuring up and fitting in, plus-size Texas teen signs up to a local beauty pageant run by her ex-beauty queen mother (Jennifer Aniston), but the whole thing escalates when others follow her lead. This new Netflix Original is a charming feel-good flick that’ll have you laughing and weeping all at the same time. And honestly, if Jen’s in it we’re watching it.

The American Meme

Since we’re in the age of the booming social media, of course there’s a documentary about the rise and possible fall of these stars. Following four different influencers, like Paris Hilton and Brittany Furlan, you’re bound to see some pretty recognisable faces in this flick. Delve into what their lives are really like.

For the horror fanatics out there, Winchester has got enough jump scares to keep you satisfied. Staring movie queen Helen Mirren and based on a true story of the Winchester haunted house from 1906. With possessed characters and ghosts surrounding them, we’re watching this from under a blanket.
