A slice may be nice, but your birthday comes only once a year so you deserve the full shebang.

We’re talking layers, we’re talking buttercream and certainly we want totally off-the-wall decorations where you can hardly find place to put your candles.

So, after much tasting and testing, here are the best birthday cake bakers in Brisbane:

Cakes by Judy C

Cakes by Judy specialises in occasion cakes for weddings, birthdays and other events. We love her amazing decorations that include handmade sugar stars, berries and chocolates. There are many to choose from but we suggest the four layered black forest cake with chocolate ganache, fresh cream and cooked black cherries.

Flour & Chocolate

The more mature birthday sampler may prefer Flour & Chocolate’s raspberry velvet cake―a light chocolate cake with raspberries folded through and topped with cream cheese frosting and fresh raspberries. Or perhaps their decadent flourless chocolate and hazelnut cake topped with dark chocolate ganache and toffee shards.

Jocelyn’s Provisions

New Farm

Salted caramel layer cake―need we say more? Okay, we’re more than happy to! Jocelyn's famous chocolate sour cream cake is sandwiched with salted caramel buttercream and is sure to disappear quickly. Or if you love a classic, we recommend checking out the passionfruit butter cake – topped with passionfruit butter icing and passionfruit curd.

Vanilla Pod

The team at Vanilla Pod know how to do spectacular layer cakes, and offer a full range including lemon and white chocolate mousse or mocha mousse. But, the child in us just can’t get past the Candy Crush―rainbow cake layers covered in buttercream and an assortment of lollies all over the top.

Cake Kiosk

Made to Order

Jade may no longer be on wheels, but she’s still supplying her incredible Cake Kiosk cakes by order. How tempting does raspberry, lime and coconut cake with runny lime icing or fresh strawberry and buttermilk layer cake with vanilla butter frosting sound?

Chester Street Bakery and Bar

The guys at Chester Street always have so much fun with their cakes, so if you want a more whimsical option this is the place for you. Oreo cake, Nutella lasagne, chocolate brownie cheesecake, coffee crunch cake covered in honeycomb―I mean, seriously??

Emily’s Sweet Treats

If you want bespoke cakes made for kids’ birthday parties, this is the place for you. Check out their Facebook page for recent creations such as Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, Mike Wazowski from Monster’s Inc and of course, Elsa from Frozen.
