Heartbreaker is one of our favourite late-night CBD dive bars. Serving bottle-aged classics in a no-frills, all-American style venue, the dingy rock and roll bar comes complete with a jukebox, a pool table (shotgun first game) and a kitsch retro kitchen.

Giddyup Mule is a relaxed cafe that has added to Yarraville’s food scene. Dishing up all-day breakfasts, the menu is diverse and delicious with plenty of healthy options. There’s also an extensive selection of fresh juices and raw, organic treats available. Beautifully designed, Giddyup Mule has a rustic feel to it and an open fire. Tick.

L’Hotel Gitan occupies one of Prahran’s most iconic pubs on Commercial Road. The brainchild of Jacques Reymond and his family, L’Hotel Gitan offers a relaxed dining experience. The concept of the ‘local pub’ has been reinterpreted to produce an elegant, bistro style venue that serves up quality French fare. Think French pub food done really, really well.

Proper & Son is a beautifully designed South Melbourne cafe that sits within the South Melbourne Market. The menu is simple and considered and in true market style, Proper & Son cooks with the best seasonal produce; the menu often changes depending on availability. Proper & Son serve fantastic coffee and make a selection of salads that change weekly.

l’altro mondo is one of Albert Park's favourite Italian restaurants. The food is fresh and flavoursome and there are some interesting twists on traditional dishes. Co-owner and head chef, Domenico De Marco has worked as a chef in the kitchens of several Michelin Star restaurants in Europe and has worked with Luke Mangan and Neil Perry before he opened l'altro mondo. A local gem.

We all know that tanning and waxing is something that you want to get just right – it can have such a huge impact on your overall appearance. You’ll be in safe hands at Beyond Skin and Beauty. The whole team is highly trained and professional; however ask for Amanda for that ‘extra mile’ experience. The level of care and precision that Amanda puts in to her treatments is hard to find.

Attention all cocktail lovers! If you’re a sucker for a mouth-watering Old Fashioned or expertly mixed Martini, and love nothing more than old-school decadence, The Den is soon to become your new favourite drinks spot.

A la Folie is a beautiful French patisserie in South Yarra. Passionate about dishing up the very best macaroons and petite choux, it’s easy to see why they’re famous for both. If you’re not familiar with petite choux, they are small bites of choux pastry filled with flavoured crème patissière and topped with a colourful fondant. They have to be tried to be believed!

Oak & Steele Wine Bar is a cosy place to experience quality regional food and drink, in the heart of Windsor. With a curated wine list that’s affordable and draws on the best regions from around Australia, there’s also an extensive selection of regional beers and ciders. With communal tables and fantastic artworks, it’s easy to feel right at home at Oak & Steele Wine Bar.

BEN Coffee+Kitchen is a cute Melbourne cafe situated in Balwyn. Serving Proud Mary coffee, a delicious menu of dishes and an extensive array of baked goods, it’s not hard to see why it’s popular with the Balwyn locals. There’s something for everyone on the menu and the interior of the cafe has been beautifully fitted out.

Quinni is a fresh and authentic Korean restaurant in Elwood. Serving many traditional Korean favourites such as kimchi fried rice and Bibimbap, the presentation of dishes is beautiful. A firm family favourite for Elwood locals, the service is friendly and the food consistent. 

Nine and Three Quarters has brought delicious Korean food to Prahran. Situated on High Street, the chic Korean restaurant features a beautifully designed interior and an impressive menu. Specialising in Bibimbap, there’s a flavour option for all tastes. Cup Bap and Fried Bap also hit the spot; you’re guaranteed to be served a delicious and filling meal packed with fresh ingredients. If you order the Bibimbap we recommend you try the spicy sauce that comes as an accompaniment, it’s made in-house and is top notch. 

Lights in The Attic is a fresh-faced Hawthorn East cafe with a whole lot of charm. Serving up quality coffee and an interesting menu of dishes, there’s something for everyone. Some of the brains behind phenomenally successful burger and dessert joints Grand Trailer Park Taverna, Easey's and Dandenong Pavilion have joined forces to bring quality and fun food to outer Melbourne. With a menu of burgers, ice cream sandwiches, shakes and fries, Truck Stop Deluxe is just as its name suggests. The space has been fitted out with truck-cab themed booths and finger lickin’ truck stop food made with fresh, local produce—the burgers are made using freshly minced Victorian beef.

Beloved by locals for its old-fashioned charm, Melbourne pub The Rose Fitzroy opened in 1886 and remains a favourite venue for catching up with mates over a few beers. The pub grub is top-notch (think chicken parma, bangers and mash, fish and chips) and The Rose takes it up a level with impressive dishes like the soy-lacquered pork spare ribs. And for something completely different, check out the recently renovated upstairs area. Fancy!

When Kevin Pak opened Melbourne's first, Tokyo-inspired 24-hour ramen joint in 2015, Melbourne slurped it up. Menya Sandaime may have recently rebranded as Shujinko, but the choice of four classic ramen broths and a range of oozy, deep-fried sides remain. The Black Ramen (which is coincidentally, not that black) is a soul-warming mix of rich tonkotsu and shellfish soup. Pair it with extra lashings of fatty, smoked chasyu (pork) and oh-my-god-good gyoza. But choose your visiting times wisely soup slurpers, there's less than 40 seats in this popular Japanese-styled eatery.  

The team behind Hampton’s Queen Margherita pizzeria really know their stuff when it comes to the traditional Italian dish. Having spent years perfecting the recipe for their pizza bases and with extensive pizza knowledge in the family, it’s no wonder that Queen Margherita has become a bayside favourite. The menu offers everyone’s traditional favourites, as well as gourmet and dessert pizzas. 

The Napier Hotel in Fitzroy is one of Melbourne's best pubs for mouth-watering food, an inviting atmosphere, and a stellar crowd of locals. Like many of the pub's dishes, the famed Bogan Burger easily feeds two, and the chicken parma is one of the best parmas in Melbourne. A top Fitzroy pub for those that like to keep it traditional: Beers, food and open fires...what's not to love?!

From the brains behind Entrecote and Stables of Como comes fabulous new Elsternwick cafe, Bancroft Brewers. Drawing inspiration from 80s' 'fern houses' (i.e. glorified conservatories), this new cafe in Melbourne serves up awesome coffees, tasty bagels and delicious simple fare to keep you refuelled and contented. One for you brunch-lovers for sure!

Two of the team behind the Sweetwater Inn have teamed up with a friend to open the south-side's coolest new bar, Leonard's House of Love. The venue celebrates all things simple and tasty—bourbon, charcoal chicken and open fires—all set within a 70s lounge-style log cabin venue. It's one of the best dive bars in Melbourne for a laid-back beer with friends or a chow down on some delicious no-frills food (burgers, fried chicken and loaded fries, as well as salad and mash combos).

Augello's has brought good Italian food to Balwyn. Situated on Whitehorse Road, Augello's offers a range of traditional Italian dishes, some of which include interesting twists. The little sister of QLD family dinning success by the same name, Augello's in Balwyn will be offering as more regined menu - their Smoked Salmon Pizza isn't to be missed! 

Biba St Kilda is the latest edition to their hair salon group in Melbourne. Hosting some of the best hairdressers in Melbourne with a total of 16 salons, Biba is one of the leading innovative designers in the hair industry. Biba salons are always busy, but maybe if you’re lucky you can sneak an appointment in before everyone flocks to one of St Kilda’s best hairdressers. 

The Lincoln Hotel is a friendly pub in Carlton. With a fantastic food offering that goes beyond your standard pub food, they are dishing up delights such as rabbit terrine with lambs tongue and tonkatsu and coffee cured ocean trout with radish and nashi pear. The desserts menu is equally appealing; the lime curd with honey marshmallow, macadamia and camomile caught our eye. This isn’t to say that there aren’t also everyone’s favourite pub meals on offer. Steak, lamb shoulder and bangers and mash are all on the list.

With knits, shirts, trousers and accessories that suit all occasions, as well as ankle boots to die for (seriously, can we justify a pair a season?!), this is one epic Melbourne fashion find. One of Melbourne's cutest homewares, textiles and accessories store, you're guaranteed to find something unique at Feathered Arbour in North Carlton. The petite homewares store keeps a great variety of local designers' and artisans' work as well as products from local companies including Milk & Sugar. The perfect place to treat yourself!

Alice's Bookshop on Rathdowne Street is a treasure trove of novels, art books, children's books, poetry, periodicals and rarities. It's the perfect Melbourne bookshop for picking up something special, whether for yourself or as a gift, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable. A true northside gem!

Owned by Raph Rashid (All Day Donuts, Taco Truck), Juanita Peaches joints and seasons their free-range chicken onsite. Dedication much? The result is some of Melbourne’s best fried chicken – fresh, delectably moist, cheekily spicy. You don’t want to miss out. 

Hidden below Pan-Asian restaurant Seamstress in Chinatown, Melbourne Bar, Sweatshop Bar is not just a holding zone for hungry customers waiting for a table upstairs. Sweatshop has so much more to offer! Stop by for your next night out on the town and make the most of the banging bar snacks (did someone say pork belly spoons?), cheeky cocktails and a late-night DJ. Búl, a Melbourne women’s wear label from designer Virginia Martin now has a store in Armadale. Producing luxe designs using high quality materials, Búl favours classic shapes with a distinctive edge. A focus is always placed on fine details; luxurious natural fabrics and unique prints a hallmark of the label.

Anchovy is Richmond's newest Asian fusion restaurant. Describing itself as 'modern Asian, modern Australian. A little bit in between,' Anchovy is ticking so many boxes for us. Situated in the heart of Richmond's Bridge Road, Anchovy is pushing the boundaries and doing it beautifully. Dishes such as braised goat and grilled gurnard piqued our curious streak without completely scaring us away. The brains behind Anchovy have aimed to pay homage to their South East Asian roots, while using modern cooking techniques and modern Australian influences. 

One of Richmond’s best cafes is also one of this city’s smartest social-enterprises. In true Aussie spirit, Melbourne’s Long Street Coffee employs refugees and train them for future employment.  So head over to Long Street Coffee to grab your morning cuppa, you won’t feel guilty. Not even one bit. 

Richmond is home to one of Melbourne’s best Greek restaurants with Salona’s mouth-watering meats and seafood on offer every night of the week. Serving up contemporary Greek cuisine in stylish surrounds (we love the upside down bottles on the bar's roof!), this Richmond restaurant and wine bar is not to be missed.

Sydney Road’s Woodlands Hotel is a classic Melbourne pub with all the grub and frothies you could possibly need on a weekend (or weeknight). The Village Bistro is the gastro pub at the site that beer lovers would have previously known as the Belgian Beer Garden. With a new chef and a new menu, the venue is undergoing an overhaul that will see exciting expansions and renovations over the next 18 months. With a modern European menu, there are inspired dishes such as reconstructed lamb shank, cooked for over 12 hours and served with garlic polenta, braiding juices and crisp rosemary. The interior of the Village Bistro is to receive the same facelift the menu has had.

Koko Black is one of Melbourne’s most luxe chocolatiers. The chocolate shop-cum-café is every sweet tooth’s delight, serving chocolate filled dishes in house as well as selling bespoke offerings to take home. The build-your-own chocolate gift boxes are a particular favourite, as are the hot chocolates. 

One of our favourite brands for chic comfort wear, bassike Hawksburn is busy fitting the east-side kids out with the kind of kit that you want to wear 24/7. With a strong emphasis on the use of natural fibres – cotton, wool, cashmere, leather and bamboo , bassike uses a muted colour palate.

Love doughnuts? American Doughnut Kitchen are pros when it comes to making the best traditional doughnuts in Melbourne. Think jam-filled, freshly fried balls of goodness...Epic! You'll find them at the Queen Victoria Market, where they've been since 1950—pick up some of Melbourne's best doughnuts to go.
