Where To Get Breakfast In Perth’s CBD And Surrounds

While much of Perth CBD's cafe scene prioritise good coffee and takeaway lunch bites for our hungry office-goers, there's a string of standout cafes screaming for a beautiful sit-down breakfast.

So whether you're visiting Perth or just looking for somewhere good to start your day, here's where to find the best breakfasts in Perth's CBD and surrounds. If that's not enough, hop across the trainline and work through the best cafes in Northbridge.

Mount Street Breakfast Bar

42 Mount St, West Perth WA 6005

Climbing Jacob’s Ladder is exhausting, but I've quickly learned the summit comes with one hell of a reward. Sitting right around the corner, Mount Street Breakfast Bar is worth all of the 699 steps.

With a menu of familiar favourites like Turkish eggs, chill crab scramble and stacked smashed avo, starting your day or ending your workout here is always a good idea.

INSIDER INTEL
  • If you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, the unbelievable crème brûlée French toast can turn even the worst of days around (dessert for breakfast, sanctioned)
  • The best seats are out the front under the Jacaranda trees

Community Coffee Co

After a successful stint in Subi, Community Coffee Co has brought its hype-worthy food truck eats to Perth's CBD.  There's not one, but two separate locations slinging sangas, sweets and phenomenal coffees with beans by Loot: an espresso bar at 55 St George Terrace and a full-blown cafe a little further up the road at 177.

I swing past whenever I need a quick, satisfying, on-the-go brekky or lunch. The coffee is consistently faultless, the food is always fresh and the staff are always smiling.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • I've heard you can't get a better egg sando in Perth, EXCEPT when it's truffle season and the team grates the good stuff on top and inside
  • The chicken and avo on a freshly baked baguette is my go-to, but keep an eye out for seasonal specials

Post

State Buildings, St Georges Tce &, Barrack St, Perth WA 6000

I'm confident that anyone who has brekky at Post is guaranteed to fall head over heels for this romantic Italian osteria. Much like the rest of the State Buildings, Post is dripping in old-world luxury and five-star elegance, making even a brief breakfast feel like a proper occasion.

The menu is a nod to simplicity and quality West Australian produce with elevated plates like healthy nut, seed and vegetable toast topped with crushed avocado, tomato, cucumber and lime; artfully plated seasonal pancakes; and a perfect open omelette with fontina cheese, roast tomatoes, rocket and parm. This is breakfast, but better,

 INSIDER INTEL
  • Early birds, you're in luck: Post is open from 6.30 am every day of the week
  • Feeling frisky? Trade for coffee for a cocktail (the grapefruit mimosa is divine)

Petition

Nestled within the heritage walls of the illustrious State Buildings, Petition has been serving one of my favourite breakfasts in Perth for years. Good coffee, a daring (but not too daring) breakfast menu and gorgeous interiors mean this spot should be front-of-mind for any hungry city-goer.

The short but scrumptious menu changes with the season, inspired by what’s growing in our own backyard. Expect plates like protein-packed overnight oats to fuel your day, shakshuka with halloumi for those craving comforting, warming flavours, and loaded banana bread that’s gooey and indulgent.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • Treat yourself to a cheeky cocktail—there’s Bloody Marys, espresso martinis, and mimosas on the menu
  • Seasonal specials rotate frequently, so always ask what’s new on the menu

Tiisch

9b/938 Hay St, Perth WA 6000

If you’re chasing Perth’s OG bottomless brunch, Tiisch is where the story starts. This is the spot that got the city clinking mimosas, swirling Bloody Marys and brunching with bubbles, and they’re still running the show. Two hours of flowing cocktails, beers, and wine pair perfectly with a mini granola to start and a main from a generous, ever-tempting menu

Beyond the bottomless, Tiisch is a gorgeous little oasis in the heart of the city. Whether I’m lingering over a perfectly brewed coffee, catching up with friends for a long lunch, or sneaking in a mid-morning caffeine fix between meetings, it’s bright, airy, and just the right kind of chill to escape the weekday madness.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • Celiacs won't go without at Tiisch—there's a solid range of gluten-free options on the menu
  • With lots of greenery and natural light, this open space feels like a calm escape from the city buzz

Deli Gabe

97 Murray St, Perth WA 6000

You'll be pushed to find a better bagel in the city— or hell, anywhere in Perth—than the stacked, flavour-packed beauties coming out of Deli Gabe. Overtaking the old Miss Maude space in late 2023, this CBD cafe and sandwich shop smashes the CBD lunch game, but brekkies are given equal importance.

In addition to its famous toasties and bagels, you'll find eggs on toast, granola, smashed avo, a hangover-busting brekky roll, smoothies and seriously good coffee. Of course, it's hard to go past the bagels when they're this good, but I'm yet to be disappointed with anything on the menu.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • Get a naughty Knotty—knotted donuts that come in all sorts of creative glazes, coatings and toppings
  • There's a special bagel and toastie each month, so you'll always have a new reason to return

Garum

480 Hay St, Perth WA 6000

If you thought the bountiful, Roman-inspired brekky banquet at Garum was just for hotel guests, let me set you straight. This lavish $47 all-you-can-eat breakfast is one of the CBD’s best-kept secrets, perfect for starting the weekend in indulgent style. Think fluffy frittatas, crispy potatoes, scrambled eggs, continental meats, antipasti, wholesome salads, and sweet treats that range from delicate cannoli and croissants to golden pancakes.

Buffet aside, with its soaring panelled ceiling, arched windows, exposed steel beams and sleek modern accents, Garum’s sunlit space is just as much a feast for the eyes as the table.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • The buffet brekky is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am 'til 11am, so plan accordingly
  • Come hungry, you’re going to want to try a little bit of everything

Forklore

102 Railway St Suite 11-12, City West Centre, West Perth WA 6005

I can almost hear the Swifties of the world getting excited about this one. Whether you're a fan of TayTay or not, Forklore (not to be confused with Folklore) deserves to be on your radar. Fusing Western and Asian flavours, you can get slurpable udon noodles, pandan-infused pound cakes are given the pandan treatment, and croissants topped with nori, all alongside superb scrambled eggs.

The drinks menu is equally as exciting: think black sesame lattes, genmaicha, hojicha and all your classic coffees. Even if you don't have the time for a full sit-down affair, I highly recommend grabbing something from the cabinet to go—with cookies, cakes, slices and both sweet and savoury pastries, there's always something to satisfy whatever you're craving.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • If you’re yet to try congee, the tonkotsu congee is the perfect place to start—you’ll be hooked
  • It’s always busy, but from my experience, you rarely have to wait long for a table

Hemingway Cafe by Mo

152/158 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000

Stepping into Hemingway Cafe feels like what I imagine cafes of the future to be; minimal, sleek and incredibly high-tech. Here, you'l find the best espresso machine in the biz (an undercounter Modbar, for those wondering), a series of automated pour-over coffee makers serving unique brews and some of the very best baristas in town (who can draw art on their lattes better than I can on paper).

It’s no secret that the coffee takes centre stage, but the food is just as compelling. Grab-and-go bagels and rolls are perfect for a quick fix, while the seasonal dine-in dishes are thoughtful, inventive and perfectly matched to the modern, precise vibe of the space.

 INSIDER INTEL
  • I had my first matcha at Hemingway, and it’s still the best one I’ve ever had. Not a full-on matcha fan? Ease in with a matcha chocolate
  • Got a coffee question? The staff take it very seriously and will happily chat to you about their craft
