Melbourne Cup is upon us and we have things to do in Sydney that involve cocktails, bubbly and fine dining, because we all like to feel a bit posh on Cup day. Plus, with a rock and roll exhibition rolling into town and a storytelling event, you will be feeling inspired for the week ahead.
The Moth | Sydney Story Slam
Have you got a story to tell? Well, this is your chance to tell it, with The Moth hosting their StorySLAM event at one of Sydney’s most popular entertainment hang outs, Oxford Art Factory. This week’s theme is celebration, so whether you share your tales of opulence and fine wine or the goon bag that marked your high school graduation, bust out those memorable moments and book yourself a ticket.
When: Monday 2nd November
Ananas Melbourne Cup After Party
If you’re looking for things to do in Sydney after the Melbourne Cup, this little slice of Paris is the perfect place to celebrate your big win. Spend the afternoon sipping cocktails in your finest threads, and then get down to live DJs well into the night. Just be sure to RSVP so you don’t miss out. Plus, the Ananas brasserie is open for post race dining and since it also happens to be a one-hatted restaurant where seasonal produce is king, booking a table is a no-brainer.
When: Tuesday 3rd November
Melbourne Cup at Nomad
If you haven’t already locked in your Melbourne Cup plans, don’t panic, because Nomad has you sorted with canapés, Bream Creek Sparkling and a super special shared menu that may or may not include a cheese course (it most certainly does). And with prizes for best dressed, it may even be your second chance to pick up a win on Melbourne Cup day. Tickets are $155 and we recommend you book so you don’t miss out.
When: Tuesday 3rd November
What a Life! Rock Photography by Tony Mott
This summer, the State Library of NSW will be your one stop shop for all things rock and roll, with their exhibition by Tony Mott, a Brit-born rock music photographer who Australia has claimed as their own, just like Russell Crowe and pavlova. Whether you consider yourself an aficionado or total rock novice, hop along to the exhibition to sneak a glimpse into the lives of your favourite ‘90s rockers, or Kanye. He’s there too. More details here.
When: 17 Oct 2015 – 7 Feb 2016
Sheraton On The Park’s New Paired Bar Menu
Finally, someone has taken the difficult life decisions out of our hands, with Sheraton On The Park re-vamping their Conservatory Bar and filling their menu with delicious bar snacks and small meals. Think Moroccan lamb rissoles with a pinor noir from the Tamar Valley and fresh crab rolls with Dirty Granny Apple Cider from Matilda Bay. The most difficult choice you’ll have to make is whether to go back for seconds.
