Expect retro styling, industrial and reclaimed furniture, buttermilk chicken and a whole lot of hot sauce and sesoning from this new Brunswick East restaurant.
Carters Public House
Previously known as Carters Bar, Carters Public House is an awesome music, beer and food venue on Northcote's vibrant High Street. As well as serving up some delicious local and imported beers, ciders and wines, Carters does a great line in pub food too—think pulled pork rolls, onion rings and both beef and veggie burgers—and pulls a large crowd of locals, especially when there's a live band playing. A cracking small venue that you'll definitely be back to!
Estelle by Scott Pickett (ESP)
ESP, which stands for Estelle by Scott Pickett, is the latest addition to the Estelle family in Northcote. This stunning new Melbourne restaurant showcases only the best in local cuisine in an exquisite menu designed by Scott himself. But food isn't the only feature! The interior of ESP brings together the best in international and local craftsmanship, with names including Philippe Starck and Christopher Boots sitting side-by-side.

Cannings Free Range Butchers | Kew
If you're in need of top quality grass fed beef, pork, chicken and the rest, you'll love Cannings Free Range Butchers in Kew. The traditional Melbourne butchers is a one-stop shop for all of your meat needs, and even has a substantial deli and seafood section. Whether it's a family get-together, steak night with your mates, or the most epic bacon sarnie known to man, Cannings Butchers should be on your list.
Heartbreaker
Heartbreaker is one of our favourite late-night CBD dive bars. Serving bottle-aged classics in a no-frills, all-American style venue, the dingy rock and roll bar comes complete with a jukebox, a pool table (shotgun first game) and a kitsch retro kitchen.
Giddyup Mule
Giddyup Mule is a relaxed cafe that has added to Yarraville’s food scene. Dishing up all-day breakfasts, the menu is diverse and delicious with plenty of healthy options. There’s also an extensive selection of fresh juices and raw, organic treats available. Beautifully designed, Giddyup Mule has a rustic feel to it and an open fire. Tick.
L’Hotel Gitan
L’Hotel Gitan occupies one of Prahran’s most iconic pubs on Commercial Road. The brainchild of Jacques Reymond and his family, L’Hotel Gitan offers a relaxed dining experience. The concept of the ‘local pub’ has been reinterpreted to produce an elegant, bistro style venue that serves up quality French fare. Think French pub food done really, really well.

Proper & Son is a beautifully designed South Melbourne cafe that sits within the South Melbourne Market. The menu is simple and considered and in true market style, Proper & Son cooks with the best seasonal produce; the menu often changes depending on availability. Proper & Son serve fantastic coffee and make a selection of salads that change weekly.
l’altro mondo
l’altro mondo is one of Albert Park's favourite Italian restaurants. The food is fresh and flavoursome and there are some interesting twists on traditional dishes. Co-owner and head chef, Domenico De Marco has worked as a chef in the kitchens of several Michelin Star restaurants in Europe and has worked with Luke Mangan and Neil Perry before he opened l'altro mondo. A local gem.

A la Folie is a beautiful French patisserie in South Yarra. Passionate about dishing up the very best macaroons and petite choux, it’s easy to see why they’re famous for both. If you’re not familiar with petite choux, they are small bites of choux pastry filled with flavoured crème patissière and topped with a colourful fondant. They have to be tried to be believed!

Specialising in Bibimbap, there’s a flavour option for all tastes. Cup Bap and Fried Bap also hit the spot; you’re guaranteed to be served a delicious and filling meal packed with fresh ingredients. If you order the Bibimbap we recommend you try the spicy sauce that comes as an accompaniment, it’s made in-house and is top notch.

With a menu of burgers, ice cream sandwiches, shakes and fries, Truck Stop Deluxe is just as its name suggests. The space has been fitted out with truck-cab themed booths and finger lickin’ truck stop food made with fresh, local produce—the burgers are made using freshly minced Victorian beef.

Menya Sandaime may have recently rebranded as Shujinko, but the choice of four classic ramen broths and a range of oozy, deep-fried sides remain. The Black Ramen (which is coincidentally, not that black) is a soul-warming mix of rich tonkotsu and shellfish soup. Pair it with extra lashings of fatty, smoked chasyu (pork) and oh-my-god-good gyoza. But choose your visiting times wisely soup slurpers, there's less than 40 seats in this popular Japanese-styled eatery.
