5 Cafes And Restaurants To Visit This Weekend

You’ve made it through, once again! It’s finally the weekend and means that treating yourself is mandatory. Take a break from the granola bar breakfasts and takeaway dinners and go out to celebrate your week of hard work. To ensure you all have a weekend of food that won’t disappoint, we’ve rounded a list of the five cafes and restaurants to put on your weekend agenda.

Best Ugly Bagels

City Works Depot & Newmarket

Now this place is just a classic that can never go wrong. Best Ugly Bagels are located in City Works Depot and Newmarket and we guarantee that it’ll be the best bagel experience of your life. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of their menu. Their woodfire ovens do things your toaster at home could NEVER achieve. Pro tip: go with a friend, get anything you want out of the savoury options (the Yodi is a must) and then get a sweet one to share, the Bananarama is next level good.

Want more of a sit-down experience and sophistication? We’ve got you. Ortolana takes classic dishes and puts them to the tenth power by adding their own unique twist. Yeah you can get an avocado and smash it with a fork at home, but do you add mint, chilli, feta, cereal toast and a perfectly cooked egg? Didn’t think so. They also have an all-day menu that runs till late that is not be missed and the ambience stays 10/10 no matter what time you go.

Sun World Chinese Restaurant

For all those who are sick and tired of brunches consisting of granola, eggs and toast, try this place out. Sun World serves some of the best dim sum in Auckland with a huge range from savoury to sweet. Yum Cha isn’t just freaking delicious, it’s an experience and Sun World has got the goods, for sure. Do us a favour and get their Xiao Long Bao (a.k.a., the juiciest pork soup dumplings) the mochi ice-cream balls and their egg tarts.

Tart Bakery

Grey Lynn & Karangahepe Road

Now vegans, of course, we didn’t forget you all! Although raw vegan desserts are amazing, everybody wants a carby, flaky, buttery pastry or pie every now and then. Our friends at Tart Bakery have created a bakery of nostalgia full of classic pies, subs, pastries, slices and doughnuts which are all fully vegan. Whether you’re vegan or not, this place can be enjoyed by anyone. Not to mention, they serve up some mighty fine coffee! Side note: leaving Tart Bakery without trying the coconut cream pie would be considered a crime.

Lucky Buddha

Auckland City

Asian fusion dining is all the rage nowadays and Lucky Buddha just does it so right. Dishes are inspired by Korean, Thai, Filipino, Chinese and Malaysian cuisine (just to name a few), there’s something for everyone at Lucky Buddha. They serve up the freshest salads, juiciest meat and the most flavourful sauces, what more can you ask for? Lucky Buddha is open for lunch and dinner, both with menus that are to die for with an environment that’ll make you feel pretty fancy!
