Weekday eating can be a bit bleugh. Partly because you’re saving your dollas for a big weekend blowout, partly because you’re too tired to conjure up anything other two-min noodles. Well, people, the weekend is now in sight and you can now give your tastebuds a rark up at some of Auckland’s best cafes and restaurants.

Fancy eggs, pork belly buns, gooey baked cookie dough—whatever you’re after, you’ll find something to tuck into. Bibs on, forks at the ready! Let’s do this.

Bodrum Kitchen

New Lynn

Souvlaki, mezze and loukoumades probably don’t play a big enough role in your diet at the moment. Fret not! All can be amended with a visit to New Lynn’s very own Greek meets Turkish all-day eatery this weekend. Bodrum Kitchen is decked out with stunning Mediterranean tiles and copper cutlery (it even landed a spot on Most Beautiful Cafes list) with vibrant, flavourful food to match. Pop in for brunch and gobble down their Turkish breakfast featuring honeycomb, vine tomatoes, feta, olives, cucumber, egg, sujuk and Turkish bread or rally up your foodie friends and tackle their dinner menu. You’ll find platters loaded with falafel, calamari, pickles and kofta, and badass kebabs

Mt Albert

If you haven’t seen the humble egg get a makeover at L’oeuf, hop to it! This Mt Albert café is Auckland famous for their egg-centric menu, including the ridiculously pretty Nest. Our fave, however, is The Hunter—creamy balsamic Portobello, chorizo, parmesan and truffle oil on sourdough. Not an egg fan? The Cambodian made from sweet black banana rice on a bed of salted coconut cream with kiwi fruit and lychees will hit the spot.

Big Fish Eatery

Penrose, you’re one lucky burb. Big Fish Eatery are pros at Pan Asian cuisines, injecting bold flavours, fresh produce and a whole lotta love into their food. From perfect slices of sashimi and pork belly bao to Mongolian lamb and noodly pad thai, this restaurant will take you a foodie tour around Asian in one sitting. We vote you save a considerable amount of room for their baked cookie dough desserts—a gooey cookie skillet chocka with dark chocolate, crunchy PB and topped with vanilla ice cream. You’re welcome.

Cornwall Park Café

Cornwall Park

Slip into your activewear, boost up One Tree Hill and a scrumptious brekkie will be waiting for you at Cornwall Park Café. Is that won’t get your booty moving, we don’t know what will. This lovely café is plonked on a sunny spot in Cornwall Park where they keep bellies happy and full with spiced hotcakes, croissant eggs bene and braised brisket burgers. If caffeine is a calling, mix things up and try the deconstructed ice coffee. Made with a house blended coffee shot, cold brewed coffee ice, sugar syrup and milk, this beverage will have you bouncing off the walls all weekend long.

Jervois Steak House

Herne Bay

Sometimes you just want to get down and dirty with a hunk of medium rare steak. When you do, there’s no better place than Jervois Steak House. This Herne Bay restaurant is a celebration of meat in all its glorious forms, using premium beef, lamb and poultry cuts to create an epic meat feast. We’re borderline obsessed with the union of angus steak, chipotle hollandaise and baked candied kumara. Their wine selection is off the charts and since it’s starting to get cold up in here, a glass or five of pinot noir is your best bet. Bottom’s up!
