What is better than sunshine? Food and sunshine, of course! With the Italian’s claiming to be the top dogs of everything al fresco, we can’t help but disagree! C’mon, Auckland has just as many (if not more!) gorgeous outdoor eateries, cozy little courtyards and utterly perfect picnic spots to soak up the rays and munch away the days.

With fingers crossed and sun hats on, we present to you the top 50 places to eat outdoors in Auckland!

  1. Bowl over your chums at Rudi’s this summer. With the in-house bowling alley, awesome share plates and guzzle-worthy beers, enjoy this and more whilst overlooking the harbour. Summer = sorted!
  2. Bring a bottle of vino, chips & dip and other snacking essentials to Bastion Point, where the sun set awaits. Cheap and cheerful at its finest.
  3. It’s a firm favourite among Aucklanders and there’s no surprise why. With a bountiful choice of burgers, brunches and beverages, we couldn’t not include Ponsonby Central now, could we? Grab a seat in the faux grass courtyard and settle in for the day.
  4. Fernilea is a complete, Coatesville gem. Venture through the shrubbery and foliage and discover the quaintest and idyllic garden, ever. For a picture-perfect brunch location, look no further.
  5. Worth the climb, Chelsea Estate Heritage Park makes for some of the best views of Auckland. Pack a picnic and get ready to fill those camera rolls with panoramas and skyline shots.
  6. Located in the picturesque location of Hillsborough and serving up some of the best food this side of town, the team behind Pah Homestead Company have got your outdoor eating covered. With the surrounding deck and views of the garden, what more could you possibly want?
  7. If being outdoors on Waiheke wasn’t good enough, try being outside at the vineyards of Cable Bay. With a glass of the good stuff in hand and ample choice of deliciousness to feast upon, get on that ferry now!
  8. With long, wooden share tables, ample outdoor seating and serving up some of the best beersies in Auckland, Hallertau Brewery is a one-stop shop for your food and drink needs.

  28. Pizza, pasta and a whole lot of vino—we can’t look past Prego for our Italian cravings. Sit outside to enjoy this dining experience to its fullest.
  29. Parnell eatery, Rosie is a complete hit with locals and there’s no surprise why. With seasonal menu items and delectable dishes you can watch the world go by from your outdoor table.
  30. Mekong Baby, what would we do without you?! Serving some of the city’s finest Asian cuisine, this restaurant allows lucky diners the chance to relax in cushioned, wicker chairs out front with a cocktail in hand!
  31. Catch a batch of ‘fush & chups’ from Riba in Devonport and then stroll to the top of Mount Victoria to enjoy your feast. Watch out for the seagulls mind you!
  32. Another Britomart favourite hot on our list is The Store. C’mon, the sheer amount of pastries, sweet treats and savoury snacks with an outdoor area allowing us to feast on such things in peace, we’re in heaven!
  33. In such lush surroundings and gorgeous greens, Western Springs makes for the perfect BBQ spot. Complete with free barbies to use, bring the whole family and get your sausage sizzle on! Keep an eye out for pesky geese though!
  34. Another BBQ spot that deserves a mention is none other than Long Bay. Set amongst the beautiful beach and surrounding park, it’s the perfect spot to grill some steak and have a splash.
  35. It’s a secret amongst locals but we can’t help but spill the beans on this little spot. Boasting a wide selection of beverages, the gang at Flight 605 also serve up some killer snacks. Tuck yourself away in their secluded courtyard and you’re good to go!
  36. This Victoria Park bar has got your after work and weekend drinks sorted. Tom Tom Bar and Eatery has one of the largest outdoor balconies in Auckland to fit all you thirsty and hungry lot in.
  37. Hidden away in Kingsland, try your best to stumble across Mondays Wholefoods. Open for brekkie, it recently opened for night-time service, this beautiful plant-laden courtyard is the perfect venue for peeps wanting healthy and delicious food.
  38. Looking for that perfect picnic spot? Hunua Falls have got you covered, guys! With an epic waterfall on hand and lush greenery all around, your tuna sammies have never looked so good.

  40. Managed to head down to Silo Park Cinema to catch a flick? Don’t go hungry with the ever-changing food vendors on hand to satisfy your grumbling tummy!

  42. Potty about plants and just as passionate about their grub, the team at The Garden Shed, have nailed outdoor dining on the nose!
  43. Enjoy fine-dining at its best at the gorgeous, Bracu. Set in beautiful grounds and surrounded by olive trees, look on from the all-weather verandah as you savour every bite.
  44. Judges Bay is one heck of a picnic spot and one that we can’t get enough of. With the choice of the BBQ facilities or bringing your own picnic, this is on our summer bucket list, for sure.
  45. Steal yourself a spot at Bach’n Cafe in Maraetai and lap in the sweet, sea views over your brekkie order.
  46. Puhoi Pub has all the charm, character and atmosphere you could possibly need. Add in the fact that the large wooden tables are perfect for soaking in the rays,  and you’ve got yourself one heck of an eatery.
  47. Parnell Swimming Baths are a great way to pass the day. With all that splashing around you’re bound to get hungry so pack a lunch and you’re good to go!
  48. With ample deck space and with the thumbs up for your four legged friends to join, order in some of Crave’s best brunch items as you the puppy eyes look on.
  49. Take in the views of the surrounding vineyard as you enjoy offerings from the Villa Maria cafe. As predicted, their wine list is out of this world. Office meeting anyone?
