8 Bars You’ll Be Drinking At This Spring

Ah, spring. How glad we are that you have sprung. The weather can only get warmer, the drinks can only get cooler and the good times can only get…erm…gooder. If a few bevvies in the sunshine has suddenly become top of mind, then you’ll no doubt be on the lookout for Auckland bars that specialise in exactly that. From neighbourhood cocktail bars to beer spots a bit further afield, here are eight bars you’ll find yourself sippin’ at this spring.

Harbourside Ocean Bar & Grill

Quay St

When the sun is shining, a bar with a balcony is the way to go. Harbourside Ocean Bar & Grill catches all the rays of the sun and the ambience of this bar is absolutely buzzing. Situated at the ferry building near the waterfront, Harbourside provides an experience that makes you feel like you’re living your best boujee life. Go all out and order a whole crayfish and pair it with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate spring.

Half Moon Bay

Situated in the heart of Half Moon Bay Marina, breathe in the fresh spring breeze at Grangers. This bar, along with their waterfront view, provides the tastiest eats to pair perfectly with your glass of vino. Order a seafood platter which is loaded with the freshest finds from the ocean and sip on a glass of one of the many rosés they have on their drinks' list. If you want something a little more indulgent, the Lewis Road Creamery chocolate and peanut butter cocktail is a must.

Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen

Freemans Bay

Another gem located in Freemans Bay is Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen. This bar replicates an urban loft apartment situated in a bustling city and the magic happens when the sun makes its way through their big glass windows. The bar is warm and welcoming and it gets even better when you make your way to their outdoor deck as Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen also offers some killer views. Don’t be scared to get dirty at Sweat Shop Kitchen—their half rack of ribs are finger lickingly good but isn’t complete without a beer brewed by Paddy Molloy.

Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.

You won’t be able to fault Dr. Rudi’s who have everything you want in a bar but more. From their rooftop facing the waterfront providing stunning views of the City of Sails to the 16 beers on tap and three feet pizzas, you would think Dr. Rudi’s have it all. But, take a closer look to the corner and you’ll find a bowling alley. Yup, a rooftop bar with drinks list as long as their pizza and a bowling alley, what’s not to love?

Brothers Beer

City Works Depot

Sometimes, a cold one is all you need on a warm spring day. Brothers Beer has 18 taps and more than 200 bottles of beer so it’s safe to say that you’ll find your perfect pint at this bar. Brothers Beer may not be situated on a rooftop but it’s still a killer spot for spring. The chilled out vibe makes you feel like you’re in the comfort of your own home. Brothers Beer is where you just let go, lay back, relax and sip your way through the endless list of beer they have on offer.

Madame George

Although it’s intimate and cosy inside Madame George, the outside space is where it’s at. Situated on trendy K’Road, Madame George is buzzing with sounds of zooming cars and loud chatter. Grab yourself a pisco sour, a concoction of pisco, lemon and whipped egg whites which taste like a sweet meringue—pull up a chair and watch the sunset.

Cable Bay Vineyard

Waiheke Island

It’s not technically a bar but you haven’t done Auckland properly until you’ve had vino in the sun at Cable Bay. Bean bags are dotted across the lawn and the sprawling view of the harbour is unbeatable. The balcony is the spot to enjoy pizzas, wagyu sliders and fried chicken, washed down with wine, of course.

La Zeppa

Freemans Bay

Not only does La Zeppa have one of the most spacious rooftops Auckland has to offer but their cocktail lists blow us away every single time. The classic espresso martini and mojito are just a warm-up for the real deal, we’re talking dark chocolate negroni, marshmallow frosé. The icy blend of zingy rosé topped with sweet and fluffy marshmallows is a refreshing treat and perfect for spring.
