As the days become hotter and the beverages cooler, it is vital to know which Auckland rooftops are worth your time! A glass of bubbly, the beaming sun and a place to enjoy Auckland’s views is best found on one of these awesome rooftop bars. Whether it’s a romantic sunset or a view of Auckland’s picturesque harbour, these places will provide a guaranteed good time—from up high.
Dr Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.
Auckland’s latest rooftop bar is exactly what the viaduct needed—it’s a dream location for city slickers and after-work drinks. Specialising in craft beer, Dr Rudi’s also offer an exciting food menu with an array of platters and pizzas designed for sharing with your crew!
If the harbor-side view isn’t enough to keep you well entertained, the bar has set itself apart from the rest with its very own indoor bowling alley… that’s right you can drink and bowl in style! A live DJ plays cool and classic vinyls from Wednesday through to Sunday, adding to the funky European atmosphere. We predict Dr Rudi’s will be the hot spot for you and your friends this summer!
Many a summer arvo has been spent at TSG and this summer is going to be no different. It boasts sprawling views over the port, which means it’s the perfect place to catch the sunset. Order a bunch of their epic pizzas (we love the GoGo Mexico with chicken, avo, onion, jalapeno, coriander pesto and chilli powder) and cool down with one of their house made cocktails—the Passionfruit Mai Tai is a winner.
The Glass Goose
Federal Street, aren’t you lucky? The Glass Goose opened last year and quickly became a rooftop drinking hot spot. Sit amongst the greenery and knock back oysters, great NZ wine and soak in the sunshine. Word of warning: it can be a bit tricky to find—head down the little alley and up the stairs behind Gloria Jeans.
It’s not often that ‘exclusive’ and ‘Auckland bar’ will be found in the same sentence…meaning Seafarers is in a league of its own. The chic rooftop bar situated above Ostro has one of the most sought-after menus in the city, designed specifically for the club by Michelin-starred chef Josh Emmett. With a view of the ports that look particularly dazzling at night fall, The Seafarer’s makes you feel as if you're in the midst of a glamourous metropolitan—say NYC, perhaps? FYI you must become a member to visit this opulent location, get the deets here!
Brew On Quay
This bar is, ermm, topless, and totally worth your time this summer. Brew On Quay have a stellar beer selection and their grazing menu is sure to put any grumbles at bay. It’s not a massive rooftop bar, but there’s enough space to soak in the rays without being sardined up to a stranger.
Possibly one of the most well-known rooftops in Auckland, it would be an Urban List crime not to mention La Zeppa amongst the best rooftops in the city. Cosy up on one of their chairs and, whether it's a cold lager or an espresso martini you thirst, La Zeppa will have it covered. A rooftop decorated with colourful lanterns, offering live music and a clear view of the Sky Tower, La Zeppa is the perfect location to loosen up and watch the afternoon turn into night.
Fort Street Union
City workers flock to this awesome CBD bar and you should too! Fort Street Union provides excellent food and ice-cold drinks at their rooftop bar, and it won’t disappoint. Chow down on Asian duck spring rolls or antipasto platters while sipping on sangria! Beer and cider more your thing? Not to worry, they’ve got plenty on tap.
One of Auckland’s most popular rooftop terrace is Tom Tom. The deck is huge so will fit you and your whole crew as you catch up over a couple of bevvies. The view isn’t too bad either—you can see beautiful Victoria Park and the hustle and bustle below.
Situated in Auckland’s East, Howick’s very own rooftop bar is a prime location for a casual drink…or two! With a banner of flags hanging down from the ceiling and super-friendly staff, Basalt is welcoming to all. Food fanatics, rejoice! The menu offers a bunch of tasty options, as well as catering for your dietary requirements! Kangaroo even makes an appearance amongst their colourful choices. This rooftop bar provides the perfect place to soak up those summer rays, admire the sea views and indulge in copious amounts of food and drink!
