Pizza…it’s the food of the people. No edible creation brings us more joy and happiness than a slice of cheesy, doughy deliciousness—that’s why we’ve made it our job to hunt down Auckland’s best pizza joints.
We rounded-up 15 tasty pizza places a while back but it has come to our attention that Auckland is basically a mass pizza party with many more pizzas waiting for you to get your mouth around them. Without further ado, here are nine more of Auckland’s best pizza joints.
You wanna pizza them?
Pane E Vino
Grey Lynn
Pane E Vino is Grey Lynn’s favourite BYO den serving authentic Italian dishes, including our numero uno—pizza. Assemble your clique and book in for a rowdy evening on the weekend or have a mid-week date night with boo. The menu is MAAAASIVE (emphasis on the massive) but we suggest you put your attention on the pizza.—even then, there’s more than 40 flavours to choose from. Whether you’re a Margherita loyalist, a fan of seafood or prefer your pizza folded (all with a side of wine), Pane E Vino could be your next go-to.
Francesca’s Pizzeria
Pt Chevalier
This dinky Pt Chev pizzeria is owned by Italians with a knack for churning out scrumptious Neapolitan pizzas. Available for dine in or takeaway, Francesca’s will see you feasting on simple yet seamlessly executed pizzas including primavera, capricciosa and Francesca’s Choice—tomato, mozz, spinach, salami and eggplant finished with chilli. Yum in our tum.
That’s Amore
Auckland City & Kumeu
That’s Amore won hearts at their hidden Auckland City restaurant and now, they’ve taken the pizza party to Kumeu. While we are yet to dine at the Kumeu branch, the CBD restaurant hooked us a while back. There are 38 pizzas on the menu including funghi, gorgonzola and pear, prawn and zucchini, and our personal fave, the That’s Amore pizza featuring mozz, prosciutto di parma (24-month cured ham), anchovies, capers, olives and artichokes.
Sal Rose
Mt Albert
Nestled in Mt Albert, Sal Rose is a warm, cosy restaurant serving (you guessed it) lots and lots of pizza. There’s your traditional Italian pizzas (Marg, Romana and capricciosa) as well as a handful of more creative versions—Tandoori chicken and marinated pork belly. Go for the pizza, stay for the dessert, especially the lemon tart.
Britomart Country Club
Britomart
If you’re in town and the pizza cravings hit, make a bee line for Britomart Country Club. Not only does this bar provide good vibes and great beats, it also makes tasty wood fired pizzas. There’s pineapple and prosciutto, chicken karaage, peppered beef, Kikorangi pork and pear, and garlic chilli prawns. Order them all (and a couple of cocktail jugs) and tuck in!
Covo Italian Bistro
Auckland City
This small yet perfectly formed CBD restaurant specialises in Roman-style pizza and bloody good Roman-style pizza at that. Covo’s pizza is square, not round, and comes in six different delicious flavours. Veggos won’t be able to get enough of the Vegetariana with pesto, mushies, onion, tomatoes, mesculin, mozz and parmesan, white the Carnivora feat. salami, grilled chicken, ham, bacon and mozzarella will rock all meat-lovers’ socks.
Blitza
Birkenhead
Birkenhead, you’re one lucky ‘burb. Blitza has been making pizza for the people of Birkenhead and beyond since 1999, so you know they’ve got some sort of pizza magic down pat. There’s fancy creations such as Thai Chicken, Blue Vein Tropicana and eye fillet pizza as well as simpler, more traditional flavours—a top-notch Marg, fungi, marinara and the Blitza Special. We won’t tell you what the latter involves but trust us when we say it’s worth a visit.
TSG
Britomart
Pizza and cocktails are meant to be and, lucky for us, that’s something that TSG understands. Gather your crew and stop by for some carb-laden goodness washed down by a bevvy or two. We’re borderline obsessed with the Go Go Mexico pizza—chicken, avo, red onion, jalapenos, coriander salsa, spicy tomato sauce and mozz. Or for a slice of Italy, the Pierogi (sliced potato, Italian sausage, rosemary, sage and scamorza sauce) can’t be missed.
Loco Pizza
Parnell
For a solid takeaway pizza option, Loco Pizza in Parnell has got it going on. This funky pizza joint serves up the kind of pizza toppings you’d make at home—the Aboli with ham, avo and cream cheese, the Marilyn with fig, prosciutto, caramelised onions and ricotta and the Pollo with pesto, chicken, bacon and camembert. Best of all? They deliver! Pizza without having to put on a bra is the best kinda pizza, amiright?
