Just when you thought Auckland couldn’t get any better (house prices and traffic shambles aside), a new art garden—with an accompanying restaurant—is opening for your viewing pleasure!
Situated in stunning Matakana, it promises to showcase hundreds of works of art to amuse, inspire and stimulate. The brainchild of Anthony and Sandra Grant, the new art garden, Sculptureum, sees a 25-hectare piece of farmland transformed into a truly magical space that all will soon be open for all to enjoy.
Filled with colourful and unexpected pieces, the multi-million dollar project includes sculpture gardens, art galleries, a function centre and restaurant/bar, Rothko. The art galleries include the works of artists such as Cezanne and Monet as well as many pieces from New Zealand’s finest creatives.
Speaking to TVNZ’s Sunday, Anthony talks of changing the way people interact with art, saying art galleries just don’t get it.
“I want people to enjoy what they see and what they like,” he says. “And not to be told they shouldn’t like it because it’s ‘childish’ or ‘colourful’.
We like your thinking, Anthony!
Sculptureum is set to open to the public later this month—we can’t wait!
