We've been embarrassing die-hard fans of Allbirds, the final say in the ultimately sustainable wool runners, since 2014 but were always slightly miffed at those shipping costs given that they were actually designed here using good old Kiwi ingenuity.

Well it's time to get excited because they're finally coming home. Yes, that's right, Allbirds are opening their first retail store in New Zealand next week! Yassss.

Nestled in Britomart, the custom built space will be home to the beloved brand’s entire footwear range including both their merino wool and tree fiber designs. It's also a chance to experience their recently launched limited edition Auckland inspired laces including Waiheke Island Teal, Light Path Magenta, and West Coast Black Sand.

Although the launch has been kept quiet as the space was built, excitement has been brewing at the thought of a physical space for us to try before we buy, all while revolutionising the way we think about shoes.

Come Thursday 15 August this will become a reality as the store opens its doors to the public at 10am.

But wait, there’s free coffee too! Neighbouring Takutai Square will be home to the Allbirds fair trade coffee cart on Thursday and Friday. Keeping in line with their core focus on sustainability and community, there’ll be free coffee all day for customers who bring along their keep-cup.

It’s been a long time coming, but well worth the wait. We'll see you there.
