While fancy pants restaurants and brunch havens have a permanent place in our hearts, there are moments when your cravings can only be satisfied by a trip to a food court. They have all sorts of exotic cuisines, are gentle on the wallet and it’s generally acceptable to rock up in your sweatpants. Yusss.
Auckland has quite the selection of food courts. From trusty international food halls to snazzier establishments, we present the best food courts in Auckland. Let the food comas commence!
Lovingly named ‘Mercs’ by its regulars, this Newton food court is somewhat shabby, but home to some of the best international fare in Auckland. We recommend making a beeline for the Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese or Korean stalls—whichever of the four tickles ya fancy. The sushi is made before your very eyes and the Korean dumplings are consistently good. Order the fresh Vietnamese spring rolls (Goi Guong), you won’t be disappointed.
This Albert Street food court has been kicking around for a while now. Food Alley will take you from India to Indo with pit stops to Malaysia, Thai and Korea along the way. The range of dishes is impressive. The team at Go Believe are renowned for their pork buns and dandan noodles or if you’re particularly ravenous, the mee goreng from Kampung Delights is a winner.
Ponsonby International Food Court
Go no further than Ponsonby Food Court for a truly epic feed. All cuisine bases are covered with a Loatian, Thai, Chinese, Italian and a couple of others. It’s the ultimate destination for you and your indecisive and/or picky mates to tuck into pasta, noodles and curry.
Undoubtedly one of the best food courts in Auckland, Elliot Stables combines great international food with the kinda vibrant atmosphere you wouldn’t expect from a traditional food court experience. We’re talking dark, moody lighting (a welcome contrast to the often blindingly bright florescent), live music and plenty of alchy to go around. You won’t find any plastic tables here. Elliot Stables has wooden furniture from which you can eat your crepes, tapas and German sausage. They even take bookings.
Otahuhu Food City
You can always rely on Otahuhu Food City for a taste of some of the best ethnic food in Auckland. Pack your appetite because every single stall is going to lure you in with the scent of homemade goodness. We get our chicken cashew fix from Traditional Thai Sizzlers.
Atrium On Elliott
Smack bang in the heart of the CBD, Atrium On Elliott is a city worker’s foodie playground. Ramen? Genzui Ramen Bar is off the charts. Beef Rendang? You’ll love Bali Star’s version. However, you’re likely to find us at The Bamboo Basket, picking up an Annie’s Favourite bánh mì—shredded pork, grilled pork belly, and sweet and sour dressing (mmm!).
Lim Chhour Food Hall
Last but certainly not least is Lim Chhour Food Hall. Before you step foot into this K Road food court, caffeine load on a $2.50 (not a typo) coffee from Coffix, the kiosk at the entrance. Once that’s done, Lee Hong BBQ is your next stop for crispy pork or grab sashimi don at Sushi Bar Salmon. A great vibe, Lim Chhour Food Hall is one of the best food courts in Auckland.
