February has shaped up to be quite the crazy, magical and entertaining month here in the Chur because the circus has come to town.
The World Buskers Festival is back for another year, bringing along a new look and a variety of entertainers from all over the world.
Bread and Circus brings with it forty shows alongside street performers littered around the city making Christchurch one hell of a cool place to be right now.
Here’s a little recap into the very best bits of Bread and Circus and what you can still get to enjoy.
The Nasty Show
This show was exactly what it promised—nasty. We’ll spare you all the nitty-gritty details but this was definitely not a show for the faint-hearted. Full of hilariously inappropriate jokes, plenty of expletives, and a true appreciation for the human body it was a wild ride from start to finish.
Feast of Fools
You didn't have to be a fool to enjoy this feast! If you’ve ever wanted to join the circus, this was your chance as this gastronomical spectacle also included theatrical escapades full of fun surprises—all on the dinner table.
The Buskers Brewery Tour
Explore Christchurch’s top breweries with buskers, a bus, and Rolleston’s best-known beer aficionado, Keith Preene. Starting in the city centre and travelling by double decker bus, the Buskers Brewery Tour will stop off at three of the region’s most iconic breweries—Three Boys, Cassels and Eagle Brewing. Punters will be treated to tasting paddles at each stop, a mouth-watering lunch, and top-notch busking entertainment at each venue. All this with your tour guide and official party starter, Keith Preene (Shay Horay). What better way to spend a public holiday?
This is not your nan’s bingo. We’re talking a competitive, daft, witty punt whilst having a few in you. If you always reckon you could beat The Chaser, or could hit the jackpot on Millionaire then Buskers Bingo is here to bring out the quizzer in you. From hilarious prizes up for grabs to some very questionable performances, this is a game show like no other.
These were some of the highlights from the Festival but each performance has truly brought their own unique flair and showcased the wonderful world of busking. So go out there and catch a few of these shows and remember to support your local buskers.
