Cafes With A View To Visit This Weekend

If there are two things Auckland does well it’s a) views and b) cafes. Put the two together and you’ve got yourself one blissful dining experience. Whether you’re into the ocean or want to go to the highest heights, don’t let the weekend pass you by without treating your eyes and belly at one of Auckland’s best cafes with views.

St Heliers Bay Café

St Heliers

For something a bit fancy, St Heliers Bay Café is the spot. This pretty beachfront café has huge windows to help you take in the ocean views while feasting on tasty brekkie and lunch fare. Sweet tooths, we challenge you to resist the rhubarb and vanilla hotcakes or, if you’re just popping by for a light lunch, the pizzettas will rock your world.

Westhaven Marina

Pop on your kicks and go for a stroll along Westhaven Marina. What awaits you is a well-deserved feed at Buoy, one of the best waterfront pozzies in Auckland. This bright and breezy café sits by the Harbour Bridge and combines stellar views with scrumptious food—just the way we like ‘em. Enjoy a post-walk plate of creamy balsamic mushies, organic mince on toast or a moreish hot roll stuffed with beef cheek, cheese relish and coleslaw. Heck yes.

Takapuna Beach Café

You’d struggle to find anyone who doesn’t love Taka beach. It’s dog-friendly, has a front-row seat of Rangitoto and is long enough to get a decent run on. The best part though? Takapuna Beach Café. Pull up a chair and dive into apple pancakes, smashed eggs or a healthy brunch salad. What’s more, their award-winning gelato is churned on site—don’t leave without trying it.

Another Takapuna goodie, Franc’s seems to be drenched in sun aaaall day, making it a top seaside munching option. The place has got a nautical theme going on and a creative breakfast, dinner, lunch and snack menus to match. Go from apple doughnuts and bubble brisket potato cake to bretzel, poutine and honey butter chicken. Trust us, just do it.

Café on Kohi

Kohi is oh-so lucky on the view front. Not only does it buzz with beachy vibes, it’s also home to Café on Kohi. The café is packed with drool-worthy cabinet food so you might be tempted to grab something to eat on the beach, but we recommend you stay for the full monty. Foodies will be stoked with the Café on Kohi’s menu, featuring truffled potato galette, smoked ham hock croquettes and their Provenance plate, loaded with sausage, smoked trevally, prosciutto, pickles, olives and ciabatta. Wash it down with one of their freshly squeezed juices. Our pick is the garden harvest.

Half Moon Bay

If a destination lunch is what you’re after, hop on a ferry and head for Half Moon Bay. Once you’re there, Grangers will fix your hunger pangs ASAP. This cafe, restaurant and taphouse offers an extensive seafood menu as well as tasty short ribs, fried chicken and irresistible burgers. They’ve also got free bike hire so you can cruise along the marina after lunch!

TRUE food and yoga

Half yoga and wellbeing studio, half bistro, TRUE food and yoga has a hell of a lot to offer. With gorgeous views of the harbour, you can treat your bod to a yoga sesh before feasting on Nic Watt’s nutrient-rich menu. There’s matcha pancake stacks, green omelettes, bone broth, mermaid salad and our personal fave, the rebel warrior—soft-shell crab, sesame slaw and spiced mayo in a toasted brioche bun with potato skins. Round things up with the miso salty dessert of hot choc pudding, salted peanuts and milk ice cream.

Sky Café

Auckland City

Let’s ditch the ocean and take things up high. Situated on the 50th floor of the Sky Tower, Sky Café will have you taking in 360-degree views of our fine city, while nibbling on gourmet toasted sammies and licking ice cream (or drinking vino, if that’s more up your alley). There’s also a badass cheese platter and bubbly combo that you should probably definitely order.
