Guys, Auckland’s latest opening is...well...a masterpiece. Forget Da Vinci because Between Café & Eatery on K ’Road is the real, timeless classic we’ve been waiting for. Inspired by the best of both Paris and Vietnam eats, you won’t find anything else quite like it here in Auckland.

The space is almost as large as how much we adore the new eatery. It features a rad fit-out starring a large counter, atrium area and bar-style seating. You’ll find a slice of its quirky personality at every turn—spotting toys, antiques and figurines in every nook and cranny it only adds to the vibrant personality of K ‘Road.

Brought to us by the brilliant mind behind The Shelf, owner Anna Lee has done it again. Only this time it’s better, bigger and by far beyond your average Auckland eatery. Longing to branch out into restaurant-style dishes and desserts, a trip around the world with her husband served as inspiration for Anna. Cooking classes in both Vietnam and Paris left a lasting impression—torn between both cuisines, Anna thought, why not try in-between? (Get it?!)

“Our menu is the perfecting pairing of Western and Eastern eats,” Anna explains. “I wanted to deliver something new and different and fun.”

On the stunning hand-drawn menu you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice. We’re big fans of the sassy sweet French toast—a stunning beautiful brioche topped with icing sugar, maple syrup, torched banana and seasonal fruit, sprinkled with in-house grown edible flowers. This is a classic done oh-so right!

Anna’s top pick is the red and white quinoa salad—and we can see why! Made up of kumara, roasted butter cup, avocado, cherry tomato, baby spinach, feta, house basil pesto, beetroot puree and smoked capsicum puree topped with house garlic dressing, it puts all other salads to shame. Anna suggests adding the smoked salmon to make it just that little bit more special.

Another stunner is the Thai green prawns. Marinated and seasoned with tender loving care in lemongrass, ginger, garlic, green curry paste and spring onion, the tender tiger prawns are placed over a bed of house-made fresh pasta. We recommend pairing this gem with the fresh n’ fruity strawberry plum iced tea.

The front cabinet features Between’s scrumptious selection of desserts. It including injectable tiramisu, fruit tarts, and heavenly caramel popcorn and berry treats.

The java game at Between is at the top of its league. Led by King Isaac, a barista championship judge, Between not only features a dedicated filter coffee bar, but serves the most enticing iced einspanner (a super stunning iced espresso coffee) in town. In addition to this, his royal highness also works his magic on all regular coffee creations and the extensive tea offering—pro tip: the white chilli truffle is an d-e-licious.

In and amongst your hustle, whether it’s work, uni or just day-to-day adventures, be sure to get down to K ‘Road and find some time for yourself in Between. If not for yourself, for your squad who’ll be thanking you the entire brunch!
