Here’s How You Can Make History In This Female-Only Gaming Comp

Gamer girls, gather round—this one’s for you. Brisbane-based company XP Esports is set to host this year’s first women-only online gaming competition by bringing us the XP Women’s League

Esports is a highly lucrative industry, and one that draws in millions of online spectators, not to mention real-life watchers at gaming tournaments worldwide. But despite the fact that 45 per cent of gamers identify as female, it’s seen as a male-dominated sport and industry—and if you’ve ever made your way into a gamer chat, you’ll know exactly how un-female-friendly it really is.

The creation of the XP Women’s League comes as an attempt to combat esports’ preference for male gamers, and hopefully, lead to a culture where women-only competitions aren’t needed.

In a partnership with tech giant Ubisoft, the females-only league will host its first competition open to Australia and New Zealand residents starting on Wednesday, 4 March, running through to April. In a show of their support for female gamers, XP Esports has waived the entry fee for the first season competition, providing free access to the $3000 prize pool.

With the comp start date just over a week away, be sure to register here if you want to compete. There’s nothing to lose, so why not give it a shot and support your fellow females in the industry? Happy gaming!
