The character of Alexander Hamilton stands in the middle of the stage, with co-stars scattered around him.

Flights to New York might be off the table for now but here's your chance to see the ground-breaking hip hop musical, and you don’t even need to max out your credit card for it. Hype up, because Hamilton the movie is coming direct to your lounge.

That’s right, Disney+ have brought the 11-time-Tony Award, GRAMMY Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical to homes around the world from Friday, 3 July. The small screen version isn’t an adaption of Hamilton, but a live capture of a stage performance shot on Broadway with the entire OG cast including Miranda himself as Alexander Hamilton.

In case you’re not familiar with Hamilton, no, it's not a story about our beloved North Island city the 'Tron. It’s a musical about the life of America’s founding father Alexander Hamilton, and the incredible lyrics written by Miranda are rapped and sung in an R&B, hip hop and soul style. Alexander Hamilton himself popularised the idea of "the American dream," with a true rags-to-riches story going from a poor, orphaned immigrant to a founding father in The White House. It’s certainly not your standard musical, and that’s why everyone loves it.

It had originally been slated for a theatrical release on 15 October 2021, so Disney+ have done us a serious solid releasing it over a year early. What's more, it's also raking in a whopping 100 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes right now. Popcorn at the ready—Hamilton the movie is now ready to stream and you can sign up to Disney+ here.

So, hit up your musical-loving pals and enjoy a night at the theatre... while still in your PJs.
