There’s been rumours swirling for years about a potential third instalment of the cult classic Legally Blonde, though nothing seemed legally binding (Elle taught us that!).
But just this morning, we’ve woken to news that the comedy queen Mindy Kaling has signed on to co-write the script for Legally Blonde 3. Even better, she’s joining forces with Emmy award-winning Dan Goor AKA a Parks and Rec alum, so you know this flick is going to be seriously LOL-worthy.
Kaling broke the news via Twitter, tweeting, “So excited to be reunited with my friends @ReeseW, Lauren Neustadter and @djgoor to work on this movie. Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!”
Just a quick trip down memory lane—we last saw Elle way back in 2003 in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, which followed the boss babe lawyer to Washington D.C. to take on companies that test on animals. Since then there’s been a Broadway show but we’ve been desperate for a return to the silver screen, and now, we’re going to get it.
While details around the plotline are still under wraps, we do know that Reese Witherspoon will be back to reprise her role as Elle Woods, as well as producing the flick.
With a little thing like Corona putting all movie productions at a standstill, there’s no word on when filming will begin but as soon as we know, you’ll know.
Until then, we think a little binge of movies one and two are in order this weekend.
