The times of fretting over what to wear for to dinner are well and truly over because The Naked Dinner has you covered…or should we say uncovered.
What was a huge hit in London at the end of last year, is now making it’s way to Auckland’s Grey Lynn for a night of naked dining. The founder, Lisa McMillan, reveals that the idea of the event is to boost self-confidence and help diners gain an understanding of platonic nudity. The couple has hosted multiple successful Naked Dinners in London but thought it was time to introduce the nude experience to Kiwis, seeing as Doug's one himself. Lisa has just announced her three last dinners are nigh before she heads back to London.
The Naked Dinner is held at a private location—the couple’s home—in Grey Lynn. The night is $81 to attend and both couples and single diners are welcome. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a welcome drink, and then handed an apron to cover up—it’s your choice how much you choose to unveil. You’re then invited to sit down at the low-rise table to drink, enjoy your meal, and socialise with your fellow nude diners. There are usually nine guests around the table, as well as Lisa, to keep numbers close and intimate. BYO wine, cider, and beer are encouraged, with strong suggestions to bring more alcohol than you may think you'll need. Photography is more than welcome, just remember to get express permission.
There is nothing sexual involved, it’s strictly traditional dinner party rules, just minus the usual attire.
As a cherry on top, you'll be served a three course meal including baked salmon, couscous salad, beetroot, spinach and feta salad and ended on a sweet note of ginger and walnut slice for dessert. Vegetarians, fear not, there's an option for you too.
With modern unrealistic body expectations from social media and the general lack of body positivity, Lisa insists naked dining is the way to overcome any negative self-confidence mentalities. So ditch the dress, jump into your birthday suit, and get ready to bare all.
