Dreams do come true, Duck Island has finally opened in Auckland.
Arguably one of Hamilton’s best exports, Duck Island have long been known for serving some of the best scoops in the nation. When we broke the news last November they were coming to town, the foodie scene erupted into a frenzy of excitement.
Setting up shop on Ponsonby Road, you’ll find the new spot next to the fire station. The fit out, by The Wonder Group, is warm and welcoming, featuring a pallet of candy floss pink hues. A step inside will have you faced with the sprawling cabinet home to 24 house-made creations, six of which are vegan.
“We’ve been looking to open in Auckland in for a while now”, says owner Cameron Farmilo. “We’ve finally found the perfect space and are stoked to be here.”
Much more than just your average ice-cream, each of their flavours have been lovingly crafted to bring you unique pairings making each iconic in their own right. It includes the famous white chocolate and miso creation.
Our top pick is the creamy and indulgent boysenberry cheesecake. With a mesmerising swirl that looks too good to pass up, we recommend going for a double scoop of this gem.
Or, opt for the peanut butter caramel cookie. Nutty, sweet with chunks of crunch, you’ll be in love at first lick.
But wait, there’s more. In addition to sundaes and addictive ice cream sandwich, they’re also serving tacos. Think a house-made waffle packed with cinnamon and chilli ice cream submerged in a dark chocolate dip shell. Yum.
With more than 30 core flavours on rotation and new creations dropping on the regular, there’s every excuse to go back for round two.
