Auckland’s heating up, and we aren’t just talking about the weather. New kid on the block Hot Hot Asian Eatery is spicing up the Auckland foodie scene and we couldn’t be more excited.
Found a hop, skip and a jump from Eden Park, the eatery’s fit out is as visually flavoursome as its wicked menu. Brought to us by chef Panawat Chotamungsa, a step inside will have you faced with a vibrant escape surrounded by murals painted by Chotamungsa and his family. In amongst hues of neon greens and pinks, the space is only one component of a soon-to-be crowd favourite.
“We want people to think of Hot Hot as their friendly local,’ says Panawat. “We’ve combined flavours from across Asia to deliver authentic tastes with a twist.”
With a focus on flavour, when faced with the epic menu you’ll no doubt be spoilt for choice. Consisting of shared plates, salads, bahn mi, buns, curry, noodles, rice and even sweet treats there’s no shortage.
Kick things off with the sweet and sour fried tofu. With tamarind sauce and fried shallot topped with crispy noodle, it’s the perfect starter for what's to follow.
The bangin’ bahn mi rolls are not one to miss. Panawat’s top pick is the signature, jam-packed with pork belly, slaw, pickle, chilli, egg, peanuts and beans pâte its an all in one meal!
Look no further than the hot hot beef curry for an extra spring in your step. Featuring tender beef, sweet potato, peanuts, onion, fried chilli and shallot served alongside light fluffy roti, this bad boy is definitely one for the foodie bucket list.
Of course, nothing beats a classic done right, the hot hot pad thai features rice noodles, egg, chive bean sprouts tofu, peanuts and tamarind sauce. With prawn, pork belly, chicken and vegetarian options, you’ll be quick to make plans to try them all.
Just when you think things can’t get any better, Hot Hot also serve an extensive range of iced teas and bespoke cocktails. Notably, the Thai-style lemon ice tea has a sweet refreshing twang, just what we need to beat the (hot hot) heat.
An adventure from the second you walk in, from the fluro fit-out to the flavoursome offering, there’s little to miss when it comes to Hot Hot Asian Eatery.
