The Latest Dance Rave Craze Has Hit Auckland

First it was dancing in the dark, in total freedom with the No Lights, No Lycra dance craze, but hey, why limit yourself to dancing in the evenings? Sure, we know Auckland mornings are so flipping cold you’re waking up unsure of whether you’re Arthur or Martha, but we’ve found the latest dance craze that will have you throwing off those covers and heading to the door before your body can register the near-freezing temperatures.

Called Morning People, this dance rave is your total wee hours shake out, and is brought to you by Vanessa Scott and Jamie Newman, so you know you’re onto a good thing.

“Jamie started No Lights No Lycra in Auckland and we got to thinking that morning raves would be a fun offshoot,” explains Vanessa. “Inspired by movements overseas like Daybreaker and Morning Gloryville, we’re taking all the good parts about going out at night and putting them at the start of the day…shaking up the morning routines and expectations.”

Set your alarm for 6am to be at the Western Springs Garden hall for a 6.30am yoga with DJ Ria from Yoga Rhythms. This vinyasa flow sequence will then lead you into dancing your ass off in a fully-fledged party with DJ’s. You’ll be giddy with happiness as you dance, hula hoop and smile your way into freestyle chutzpah. Get your morning caffeine fix with coffee and care for your body with the free organic fruit kindly provided by Ooooby. And, you never know, there may be other treats too—Marcus the mobile masseuse has shown up at one of the sessions giving people free massages.

All this, before your workmates have even got their sorry butts out of bed. We reckon that it’s a pretty rad way to start your day. #partyfirstworklater
