The Line-Up For Silo Cinema Is Here!

That’s right, folks! The line-up for Auckland’s fave outdoor cinema, Silo Park, has just been announced!

The December and January programme has been released and it’s supeeer diverse. From family faves and Christmas classics to Kiwi gems and a Bollywood hit, there’s literally something for everyone!

Here’s what’s going down.

Poi E | Friday, December 2

What better way to kick off Silo Park’s summer season than with a rendition of the nation’s favourite song? Tearepa Kahi’s doco, Poi E, follows the story of Dalvanius Prime, the man behind the pop waiata that took the country by storm in ’84. The film will be followed by a live performance by none other than the Paetea Maori Club.

When Harry Met Sally | Friday, December 9

Hop on board the Silo Park time machine and go back to the glorious ‘80s. There will be old-school tunes followed by a screening of the much-loved 1989 classic, When Harry Met Sally. Look the part by donning those ripped tights, neon leg warmers and denim jacket. Double points if you book yourself in for a perm.

Bajirao Mastani | Friday, December 16

Bollywood is coming to Silo Park! Discover the awesomeness of Hindi cinema with a screening of historical romance film, Bajirao Mastani. The movie will be paired with delish Indian and Southern Asian eats (naan for daaays), henna, music and activities.

People’s Choice | Friday, December 23

The power is in your hands when it comes to this year’s Chrissy film. Check out Silo Park’s Facebook page in early December to cast your vote for either Elf, Scrooged, Polar Express or Home Alone (this one gets our vote!). The Great Silo Park Christmas Markets will also be in full force with eggnog and all.

The Jungle Book | Friday, January 6

Check out the 2016 remake of your fave childhood film, The Jungle Book. Starring Scarlett Johannsson, this action-packed film is not to be missed.

What We Do In The Shadows | Friday, January 13

Things are getting freaky at Silo Park for Friday the 13th! New Zealand’s mockumentary horror comedy, What We Do In The Shadows, will be screen on that big ol’ silo. Written by, directed and starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, this film will get you lol’ing.

Diarios De Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries) | Friday, January 20

Brazilian director Walker Salles will be taking over the silo with Diarios De Motocicleta (aka The Motorcycle Diaries). The award-winning film follows Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara’s journey from Brazil to Peru by motocycle, witnessing the great disparities of South America along the journey.

Monty Python’s Life Of Brian | Friday, January 27

Kicking off Auckland Anniversary weekend, it was up to the mayor of Auckland to pick this one! Phil Goff has casted his vote and he’s chosen Monty Python’s Life Of Brian to grace the big screen (great choice, Phil!).
