We’re guessing you’ve seen snippets of Van Gogh Alive on your Insta feed. An immersive exhibition where Gogh’s seminal swirls, stars, snowflakes and moonshine drift and dance across walls, just as you imagine the painter would have envisioned them in his own day.
The super-hyped exhibition has been shown in 50 different cities around the world to some six million people (that’s a lot of Insta feeds). And this year Wellington is hosting the first outdoor version of the much lauded exhibition. What's more, now that Auckland and the rest of the country will be at Alert Level Two, even Aucklanders are able to travel to enjoy it until the end of October. Score.
Van Gogh Alive is so much more than what you’ve seen on Instagram too. The multi-sensory exhibition features some 3,000 images beamed onto shipping containers a staggering eight metres high. The projections move in time to music and specifically designed light, colour and sound fill each space—it's an experience of timeless artwork akin to diving into Van Gogh’s paint perhaps (Moonlight In Paris-style, if you like).
The exhibition is on at Odlins Plaza at the Wellington Waterfront, with 40 high definition projectors. Van Gogh Alive is on until Friday 30 October with strict COVID safe restrictions in place.
Tickets will start at $20 and are on sale right here. We'll see you there!
