The votes are in! When it comes to Auckland’s food scene, there are some truly incredible players. There are top-notch chefs, classic eateries, snazzy new venues and awesome street food—all of which were recognised in Sunday evening’s Lewisham Industry Awards. The hospitality awards celebrated all things good in Auckland’s dining scene and we were stoked to see that some of our favourites took out titles.

Without further ado, here are the winners.

Outstanding New Venue: Saan

The team who brought us Café Hanoi and Xuxu are at it again with Saan—Ponsonby’s newest Northern Thai restaurant. Your taste buds are in for a wild adventure here with flavours such as chilli, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime, coconut and tamarind. We have a soft spot for their spicy green papaya salad with pickled crab. Make sure you order a side of homemade pork crackling—it’s not to be missed. Click here for more info on Saan.

Outstanding Street Food: The Lucky Taco

Tacos and food trucks weren’t really a thing in Auckland until The Lucky Taco rolled into town. Husband-wife duo Otis and Sarah Frizzell ate their way through The States before coming back to set up their taco empire. Their tacos are packed full of flavour and feature the likes of spicy fish, marinated steak, pulled pork and beef tongue. Giving them even more brownie (or should we say ‘taco’?) points, The Lucky Taco released taco kits into Farro Fresh and Nosh Food Market this year! For more deets, head to their directory listing.

Outstanding Establishment: Depot

No surprises with this one. Depot Eatery is—hands down—one of the best restaurants in Auckland. So much so, that it’s often hard to nab a seat at this Federal Street eatery. Their freshly shucked oysters and extensive wine menu are the star of the show here. We also can’t go past their Hapuka sliders with a side of potato skins. For more deets, check out their directory listing here.

Outstanding Chef: Ben Bayly

Ben Bayly is at the forefront of Italian restaurant, Baduzzi. He’s made a name for himself for maintaining the sterling reputation of both restaurants, creating excellent food and even starred as a judge on My Kitchen Rules New Zealand.

Other exciting wins include Conch Kitchen & Bar (Outstanding Local), Kokako (Outstanding Coffee Establishment), Xuxu (Outstanding Bar) and Apero’s Ismo Koski (Outstanding Maitre’d). Congrats to all the winners and nominees. Auckland’s food scene wouldn’t be the same without you.
