Attending the ASB Classic has become a ritual to many Aucklanders. The game itself lures us in but to be honest, we’ll take any excuse to spin some yarns, soak up some sunshine and sip from plastic cups. This year's infamous tennis is shaping up to be a truly unmissable event. From chilled flutes of Moët to a three-course degustation inspired by The Sugar Club and an epic Sunday session—a cold bevy and good vibes are tennis essentials.
So for a lavishly brilliant start to your New Year, here's what not to miss at the 2018 ASB Classic. FYI: It includes games of mini Moët Air Tennis… nuff said.
Moet Ice Brunch | Saturday 13th January
The Men’s Final is one of the pinnacle moments of a tennis tournament. Taking things up another notch, Moët & Chandon have decided to host a day of fabulosity, coinciding with the final. Inviting guests to start their day in style with an exclusive menu inspired by The Sugar Club, you’ll then be given a ground pass enabling you to spend the entire day court side (!!). Take it from us and position yourself perfectly for the post match interviews and signings, you can guarantee you’ll get a sweat band thrown in your direction. As expected, Moët Ice will be available at your every demand so be warned, a hangover is to be expected.
Try A Corporate Box | Throughout The ASB Classic
At risk of sounding like a snob, the tennis guarantees two things—excessive sunburn and continuous mares to the drinks stall. If this is grinding your every gear and preventing you from focusing on the tennis at play, get together a bunch of mates and splurge a bit extra on a Corporate Box. Positioned court side or behind the players with the option to include an umbrella (potentially the best part about it), you’ll be drinking, eating and watching A-class tennis like you’ve never imagined. Make sure you give a friendly wave to the rest of your mates in the stands—just so they know how good you’ve got it. #legit.
ASB Classic Garden Lunch | Friday 5th January
What’s not to love about a garden party, ‘spesh when it’s alongside an even better match of tennis! The ASB Classic Garden Lunch is back for 2018 bringing with it the very essence of glamour and style. One of New Zealand’s favourite shoe designers Kathryn Wilson will feature alongside entertainer Boh Runga for a day of fine wine, moreish food and hella good vibes. When we say moreish food, we mean it. Tickets to the Garden Lunch boasts a three course degustation inspired by The Sugar Club, paired with a glass or five of authentic Vino. This is the perfect opportunity to wear that new summer dress you got for Chrissy, accessorised with fresh white sneakers and excessively large sunnies—could we get more Wimbledon inspired?
Catch Some Of The Stars | Throughout the ASB Classic
To an Aucklander’s surprise, there’s more to the ASB Classic than booze. This year boasts some of the biggest names in the game, enough to grow an immediate appreciation for the sport. Talk of the town is inevitably the tournament's number one seed, Caroline Wozniacki. We’ll make the brave call in saying if you’ve got tickets to the women’s final—there’s a high chance she’ll be there too. Returning for another year is also David Ferrer as well as the Kansas City star, Jack Sock. Those who live and breathe tennis will be amping for every player, others (like us) recognise a few but know every item at the food stand. Either way, you’ve gotta be there.
Sunday Sweet Spot | Sunday 7th January
Bringing something new to the ASB Classic, the Sunday Sweet Spot is an entire day of live music, epic pop-up restaurants and downright delicious drinks. Curated by Sam Trevethick of Shapeshifter, the Sunday Sweet Spot allows us to do what we love most—have Sunday sesh in the sunshine. Hosted at the unique spot that is The Serve, the pop-up restaurants include Spice Alley, the Hot Dog Bar, Moët & Chandon, Heineken and The Phoenix Lighthouse Bar. If you’re someone who just genuinely loves a good yarn, a good boogie and a good banger (the hot dog kind), then this is your day. Dress code? Whatever the fook your vibing.
