Ah, weekends, oh how we love thee. Let’s face it, they’re a complete godsend at the end of the working week. Are we right? Or are we right?!

To start your time off on the right note, we have rounded up some of Auckland’s best places to dine at with your besties and fam-a-lam to give your weekend that extra touch of yum!

The Cav

If Auckland decides to treat us with some sunshine this weekend, there’s no excuse not to get yo ass down to The Cav for stunning views of the city and a seat on their huge, sun-soaked deck area. With great food to match, you’ll be feasting on some tasty morsels, sipping on some cold bevvies and hopefully enjoying good company with friends and family.

The Blue Breeze Inn

Award-winning, sticky pork buns, coconut infused cocktails and a killer vibe make The Blue Breeze Inn a complete go-to for group dinners and catch ups with friends. With stand-out service and sharing plates galore, make a beeline for this delicious destination and book a table for you and your chums this weekend.

Ponsonby, Britomart, Ellerslie & Takapuna

Did someone say tequila? Mexico has been serving up some of the best Mexican grub in Auckland for a while now and we are still as into it as ever. With an authentic and irresistible selection of small plates, this is the perfect place to pull up a pew with your homies and order in everything. Don’t forget the cocktails and soda’s though, as they are a stand out in their own right!

If you’re feeling extra fancy this weekend, book a table for you and your best ones this weekend at Ortolana. With offerings of beef short rib agnolotti (ravioli to you and I) and lamb belly with aubergine, you won’t want to share, trust us. Order in the juniper, cucumber and grapefruit gin cocktail for a summery and oh-so-satisfying treat.

With its fresh and clean interior matched with fragrant flavours and spice-ridden dishes, Saan is a haven for all things fiery and traditional. Gather the gang and prepare to feast on all the scrumi-ness. We can’t go past the twice-cooked beef cheeks or the wok seared banana prawns with lemongrass and chilli. Double the yum!

Shaolin Kung Fu Noodle

Balmoral, Auckland City, Howick & Albany

With their quirky and child-like interior, extensive and ‘I-want-one-of-everything’ menu, it’s no wonder that Shaolin Kung Fu Noodle is a top choice for a cheap and cheerful feed for the whole squad. Order in the spicy braised lamb noodles, the beef and vermicelli buns (that serve 6) and a whole lotta dumplings for a kick start in the right direction. You know you want to.

Miss Clawdy

Wynyard Quarter

With plates upon plates of share-worthy sides featuring the likes of traditional gumbo to jambalaya, Miss Clawdy’s bold-flavoured dishes make it a top choice for a long weekend lunch. If you can tear yourself away from the food (hard we know) you’ll be rewarded with a drink’s list fit for a Southern King or Queen. Prickly pear margarita? We’ll take three.

Archie’s is a well-known Italian ristorante in the heart of Newmarket, which takes great pride in delivering hearty, authentic Italian dishes. With home-made tortellini and a varied and diverse pasta menu, it’s a carb feast waiting to be explored. Italian food and the weekend go hand in hand perfectly, don’t you agree?

Flying Burrito Brothers

Albany & Newmarket

With burritos, tacos and fajitas filling up this Mexican menu, The Flying Burrtio Brothers is a one stop shop for all things sizzling and scrumptious. Don your most colourful sombrero and prepare to drink some serious amounts of pina coladas with your Mexican loving friends, this weekend.

The Garden Shed

Mt Eden

Tucked away in Mount Eden, this little hotspot prides itself on its simple, honest food and use of locally sourced ingredients. With a thumbs up from us, The Garden Shed is a must-do for a long and relaxed brunch session this weekend. Round up your squad and devour their shared platters stacked with empanadas, freshly baked bread, beer-battered onion rings and spiced chicken.

Hallertau Brewery and Restaurant

A perfect place to meet friends and to bring the whole family, Hallertau’s Brewery and Restaurant has it all. Long, shared tables, a variety of mixed platters, a kids’ playground and a fantastic and friendly vibe, you could easily spend the whole day here. With an exceptional range of home-brewed beers on offer, there’s no doubt that you’ll be sipping on some of Auckland’s best beer.
