Unbuckle Your Belt, The World’s Largest Lamington Is Being Attempted At Sylvia Park Today

An extreme close up of a Lamington cake.

The world's largest lamington is being attempted at Sylvia Park Shopping Centre, and you could nab yourself a piece of the action—literally.

Ready-made meals company, Cook's Night Off is attemping to break the current Guinness World Record with a whopping 2,500kg version that will be assembled inside the main mall on World Lamington Day today Tuesday 21 July. This super-sized treat will be equivalent to 50,000 regular lamingtons and made from more than 500kg of flour, 650kg of sugar and 13,000 eggs, baked in large slabs then stacked together with chocolate sauce and coconut for the ultimate lamington-lover's treat.

But if you thought this was a spectator-only event, think again. Once the official weigh-in has been completed, you'll be able to eat as much of this monstrous cake as you want for a simple gold coin donation that will go toward providing meals for the community groups and charitable organisations with which Cook's Night Off works. Oh my.

Any remaining lamington will then be donated to Auckland City Mission's emergency food program.

So loosen your belt and prepare to nab yourself a slice (or five!) of history, all whilst supporting a damn good cause.
