The announcement that Auckland’s Big Day Out would no longer be a thing was a sad one. Little did we know that something even better was in the works, and now, it’s so close we can’t help but get AMPED about it.

In case you haven’t heard, Auckland City Limits is a new annual festival coming to Western Springs on March 19th this year. Inspired by the iconic Austin City Limits, the Auckland version will be an awesome day out for music lovers.

While we’re positive the inaugural Auckland City Limits will be a hit, you might not know what to expect at this festival. To help you make the most of it, here’s everything you need to know about Auckland City Limits 2016.

4 Stages. 40 Artists.

Music is at the heart of Auckland City Limits, and they’ve managed to rally up some of the best international and Kiwi artists to take the stage. Everyone is losing the plot over Kendrick Lamar, who will have the crowd singing along to ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’, ‘King Kunta’, and ‘Poetic Justice’, and American indie rock band, The National are set to put on a wicked performance.

Making their way to New Zealand is Modest Mouse, a band who would have featured on many mid 2000s playlists, as well as Cold War Kids, Lord Huron, and rapper, Action Bronson.

Closer to home, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Naked & Famous, Shapeshifter, BROODS, Ladyhawke, Shakey Graves, The Pheonix Foundation, and Che Fu & The Kratez will be bringing a slice of Kiwi musical talent to the festival.

Fancy fare & market finds

Don’t expect just any ol’ festival food at Auckland City Limits. With the help of culinary genius, Chef Che Barrington of The Blue Breeze Inn and MooChowChow, Auckland Eats will feature the best bites and signature dishes from Auckland’s favourite restaurants. There will also be a range of food courts dotted across the festival to fuel up at.

The Auckland City Limits Musical Festival Market is the perfect place to break up your day. There will be a range of vendors selling art, fashion, crafts, cool merch, and a bunch of other bits and bobs to remember your day by.

And just in case you left any necessities at home, The Festival Dairy is going to be stocked with handy items such as sunscreen, rain gear, and any other last minute essentials.

Kid friendly

Bringing the little ones in tow? Kids under 10 get in for free! Auckland Kiddie Limits will function as a secure area in the festival with arts and crafts, family-friendly music on a designated stage, and plenty of activities to keep them entertained.

Cashless

Auckland City Limits is a cashless festival so there will be no fumbling around with pin numbers or accidently losing a fifty. Your ticket comes with a wristband, which you can load with moolah and spend at the vendors throughout the day! Talk about making our lives easier.
