It’s time to put all of that mid week dieting to good use and fill your bellies with all of the food—and where better than one of our fave beach-side burbs!
Here’s five of the best Scarborough cafes you should visit this weekend.
With all day breakfast available ‘til 3pm and a wood-fired pizza oven that is fired up until way past Fat Cat’s bedtime, it’s easy to while away a weekend at Pizzaca. Dishing up some pretty amazing cakes, delicious pizzas and breakfast goodies, we’re quite partial to the chorizo and chilli beans with Danish fetta and eggs and the grilled polenta with field mushrooms and blue cheese. Pizza wise, you can’t really go wrong, but the Poker Face, Ugly Betty and Sex on Fire are all good options!
The Hardware Store
Maintaining the integrity and history of a 60-year-old hardware store engrained in Scarborough’s local culture, The Hardware Store is a unique, energetic addition to the area. The modern yet creative cafe serves up fresh and healthy produce for breakfast and lunch, with a focus on great service. Their coffee is sourced from speciality roaster Campos Coffee, and is the perfect accompaniment for menu items like mixed mushroom bruschetta, herb crumbed poached eggs with prosciutto, root beer pulled pork sandwiches and zucchini and sweet corn fritters. Yumm!
Tucked away on Brighton Road, Kinky Swell plate up delicious breakfast, lunch and coffee on the daily. As soon as you cast your eyes over this menu, you’ll know you’re in for a ride. And when you start seeing other people’s breakfast come out of the kitchen, you might just intercept the waiter on his way to their table so you can demolish it yourself. We particularly love the egg and bacon roll with a soft fried egg, crispy bacon, cheese and chipotle mayo, but if you’re a sweet tooth you can’t really pass up the buttermilk pancakes with fresh apple, mascarpone and rhubarb maple syrup!
This super hip hangout is a favourite among Scarborough locals. Serving all day brekky, we’re big fans of the warm fig damper with butter and jam, seasonal berry compote with mixed nut crumble and house made yoghurt and the lemon cured salmon. Drinks wise, BOHO make a pretty mean coffee with their house blend and they also serve cold brew from Market Lane Coffee, Vietnamese hot coffee (caphe da) and a pretty tasty orange infused hot chocolate.
Milk And Paper
Cutesy little Scarborough cafe Milk and Paper have got your weekend coffee fix sorted. If lactose ain’t your friend Milk and Paper are on hand to please your stomach with a range of organic rice, almond, coconut and oat milks available—and if you prefer your coffee on the flavoured side they’ve got some pretty tasty syrups to boot (toasted marshmallow or pumpkin spice anyone?). Grab a pain au chocolate, slice of pumpkin bread or a bagel and you’re all set for an awesome day!
