We know that around this time of year (or any time really if we’re honest…) it can sometimes be far too much effort to get the entire crew or family over to your house, so why not make things easier and head out to one of Perth’s endless great spots that can cater to the whole gang?
With plenty of space meaning you’re more likely to be able to squeeze in a booking or even walk straight in if you’re lucky, here are 22 of Perth’s best bars and restaurants for large groups.
The Rowing Pavilion
This brand spanking new bar sitting pretty looking over the Swan River is a dreamy place to meet up with mates and enjoy the sweeping views of the city just over Canning Bridge. The Rowing Pavilion is the new love child of the hospo legends behind General Public, so you know that they’ve got a delicious menu (think sticky lamb ribs, king prawns and crispy kale tacos all great for sharing) and some boozy creations ideal for celebrating another year gone by with your nearest and dearest, plus lots of indoor and outdoor seating so that you can move around with the weather.
Pizzas, disco balls, terrazzo tiles and some killer cocktails? Sign us up. Mount Lawley’s Si Paradiso is the ultimate Italo-ristobar and home of good vibes. It's the perfect place to dance your way into the night and soak in the Summer sunshine in their courtyard that’s always full of energy and fabulous people. With a menu that’s super simple to share, we reckon you’re in for a perfect pre-Chrissy catch up here.
Another recently opened bar, Corvo Bar and Kitchen is all about creating a moody superb dining experience without all the OTT fanciness, meaning you can visit any time of day or night for a stellar meal in a more relaxed and laidback setting. Head Chef Ross Bass has created an ever-evolving European-inspired menu that will dazzle your tastebuds complimented by the extensive wine collection that they’re constantly adding to. A very special place to share a bottle of vino and some tasty bites, this is a beautiful spot to get together.
Picabar has become an absolute institution with the cool kids around town, and when you’re spending a Sunday afternoon sitting under those giant willowing trees with a brew in hand, you can understand why. This no frills, casual bar offers up some awesome food deals across the week and is decked out with heaps of space to fit a whole crew. If you get there early enough around opening time, you’ll have your pick of the crop too, so make a day of it and support one of our favourite local watering holes.
Sailing For Oranges
Sailing For Oranges has just opened in the old The Monk spot right in the middle of the very happening Freo coffee strip, meaning you can have a great meal and then continue on sauntering down the iconic South Terrace to keep the frivolity going long into the night. This Mediterranean style kitchen is all about locally sourced ingredients cooked in simple traditional ways to truly highlight the freshness of the seafood, meat and vegetables, while their drinks menu is something to work your way through too. This very open style plan means that you’ve got plenty of options where to sit, looking out into the world on the deck or snuggling up inside if you’re after something a little more intimate for your group.
Old Young’s Kitchen
Why not head out to the Swan Valley and embrace this divine time of the year out in the vineyards at Old Young’s Kitchen. This recently opened distillery makes you feel as if you’ve just stepped into the French countryside with their sweeping vines and pebbled courtyard and boasts a pretty fabulous menu filled with some modern takes on some beloved classics. Ensure you get yourself a designated driver, and then why not kick on to some of the other gorgeous wineries just down West Swan Road.
You just know when you’re heading to Besk that you’re in for a great fun atmosphere and some seriously tasty dishes from their prawn rolls, to their bang bang fried chicken and charcuterie boards. This bar, restaurant and ristobar is ideal for a festive reunion without all the hassle with their cute little sunny corners out the front and in the courtyard, and long table set up meaning you can fit everyone in. Even better still, you can pick up some great carefully curated wine, spirits and craft beers on your way out. What a win.
On a glorious balmy WA day, there are few places we’d rather be than looking over our azure ocean than at Island Market smack bang on Trigg Beach. This light, bright and airy restaurant is cool, casual and a no-fuss spot for family or friends, and has a fresh zesty menu to suit the location. Better still, you can all split the bill meaning there’s no complicated math equations at the end of your beautiful meal.
Cottesloe Beach Hotel
The trusty old CBH has recently undergone a revamp and introduced a spacious new indoor-outdoor dining space, dubbed The Terrace. With it, they've brought in a damn good Mediterranean-inspired menu that'll go down a treat with everyone in your crew... especially when washed down with a few spicy margs and an unbeatable beachside sunset. Whatever you do, leave space for dessert because the whipped goats cheese and strawberry cheesecake is ridiculously good.
Running With Thieves
There’s a lot to love about Running With Thieves—not only does it offer some of the best direct views across from South Beach right on the trendy South Terrace strip, but it’s also pooch friendly and offers up arguably some of the most crispy crunchy fries with a tamarind dust and garlic sauce that are paralysingly delicious. This huge chic industrial warehouse vibe also offers tasting paddles as a fun treat so that you can give all of their different concoctions a go, then purchase your own to take home at their micro store. How good.
Little Way has become synonymous in Perth with functions and special catch ups, specialising in all things hens parties, birthdays or any old celebration with multiple spaces and menu options to suit any sort of gathering. Whether you’re getting together with your loved ones for a relaxed pre-Christmas brunch, or are looking for a high tea or multi-course meal, we can pretty much guarantee this flexible team will find a way to cater to your needs to create the most wonderful festive fiesta.
Another new hot spot around our ever-growing city, Lotus is a truly magical place to sit and share a meal with loved ones with phenomenal interiors (you’ve probably seen pictures of the whimsical hanging lights) and an even better Asian-inspired menu that pays homage to corners of the Orient. The best idea if heading there with a big gang is to take out the hard decision making and take a chance on their Feed Me menu which will allow you to enjoy all of the chef’s greatest hits and most delicious creations that will leave you full long after you’ve finished for a super reasonable $69pp.
John Parker’s most recent venture nestled into the freshly developed Karrinyup Shopping Precinct offers two distinctive atmospheres to suit your invitees—downstairs is more moody, sophisticated and formal, whilst upstairs looks out over the precinct and is more relaxed with a roaring fireplace and apres ski vibes we can’t get enough of. With Dandelion’s luxe open plan kitchen fully decked out with rotisserie and wood-fire grill, you can watch your dinner being cooked and then can take home some of your own Dandelion gin that’s distilled on site too.
Seasonal Brewing Co.
This Maylands hotspot is fantastic for those with a big crew looking for a breezy, chilled out vibe with heaps of both indoor and outdoor space, as well as a massive playground for small people who need to be kept busy while the adults toast to the huge year that’s been. Seasonal Brewing Co’s slightly fancied-up pub style menu offers options for all taste buds and dietary requirements with both lots of mains and share style plates depending on the vibe you’re after.
Tonic and Ginger
Nestled in Freo’s awesome multi venue Old Synagogue across from the markets sits Tonic and Ginger, a stunning architectural marvel set in an old cathedral-like space that balances old charm with modern design that is something to ogle over. Their Asian-inspired menu is designed to be shared, meaning you can get a little pick of everything rather than having to decide on just one dish, and their cocktails have to be some of the most aesthetically pleasing around town (the Seoul’s Bloom gets us every time). What’s great, is once you’re done with your meal, you can mosey on over to one of the other sections of the ‘goge’ as it’s affectionately known, and keep the party going.
What’s so super about Little Creatures is how unpretentious it is and how everyone is always welcome - on any given day, you’ll see people straight from their post-swim, couples of second dates, uni students celebrating the end of exams, and families keen for a truly delicious feed and few frothies from these local legends. This brewery makes all of its beers on-site, so you can even take a tour around to find out exactly how your drinks are created, then head out the back to grab some sunlight and stellar views over the port.
This divine waterfront European-inspired restaurant and bar is adored around Perth and for good reason. If the spectacular Cottesloe Beach views simply weren’t iconic enough, then you’ll quickly fall in love with their Italian menu and wine menu that would be hard to beat. Il Lido is perfect for a big group as there’s such warmth and wonder whenever you visit that’ll make your heart sing and your celebration all the more special. Plus, with the beach just a stone’s throw away, you can have a cheeky cool down or toast the sunset after you’re done.
If you’re a lover of truly authentic Indian food, then look no further than Sauma situated on William Street right in the bustling heart of Northbridge. Sauma manages to keep the traditional spices, sweetness and textures of yesteryear, but cleverly produces modern cheeky takes bringing these classics into 2022. With lots of great options for little ones, plenty of long tables for larger groups and wonderful alternatives for those with tricky dietary requirements, we think this wonderful place can do no wrong.
There’s nothing more fun than a few drinks with mates on a bright arvo in the Servo courtyard tucked into the Leederville Precinct adjoining outdoor oasis, The Garden. This hidden gem is all about presenting bright unique flavours in new cheeky ways which we’re here for, plus they’re big on funky cocktail flavour creations and have plenty of non-alc options too for those keen. Because of its size, this one’s awesome for last minute spontaneous catch ups without bookings if you’re there early enough, or if you’re wanting something a little quieter, grab a booking inside for a sense of intimacy with pals.
Arguably some of the most sensational Korean-inspired sophisticated dishes around town, Double Rainbow on the ground floor of Northbridge’s fab multipurpose Rechabite is bright, colourful, enchanting and a dreamy restaurant slash bar for your next big gathering. The flavours are big, punchy and rambunctious with combos you’d never imagine and cocktails you’ll keep wanting more of. Our suggestion - grab the Han Sang Set for $70pp which will allow the chef to work magic on you and share with you an endless slew of his personal favourite dishes on the menu. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
Sweetwater Rooftop Bar
Sweetwater Rooftop Bar is cool in the way that it offers a more chic dining area for those catch ups where you want to properly sit down and have some one-on-one with your pals, whilst also providing a more informal cruisy bar area for those wanting to mingle a little more. These guys are experts when it comes to a good function and are extremely helpful in organising tricky allergy issues without any fuss, which makes it a beautiful rooftop spot to get everyone together and enjoy the unparalleled views of Freo Port.
The Standard seems to have survived the test of time - opening in 2009 as one of the catalysts of the city boutique bar trend, surviving COVID and still heaving on a Saturday night. With multiple levels, dining style options and outdoor spaces, you always know that you’re always going to have a delicious and super fun dining or drinking experience here. A pro tip: check out their Lazy Weekends menu where the talented chefs will create a lazy Susan filled with the special dishes of the week that feeds four people for only $70. Why wouldn’t you?
